Apple Details New 6K Pro Display XDR Screen with 1,600 Nits Peak Brightness[teaser]The new professional display offers advanced "Extreme Dynamic Range" performance.[/teaser] Apple has revealed its latest professional display model, the Pro Display XDR. The new 6K Retina screen is designed to pair with the company's upcoming Mac Pro, offering an advanced imaging workstation solution. "Pro Display XDR is the world’s best pro display and the perfect companion to the all-new Mac Pro," said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "With Retina 6K resolution, gorgeous color, extreme brightness and contrast ratio, and a highly functional design, Pro Display XDR delivers the most comprehensive set of features ever offered on any display at this price point." The Pro Display XDR features a 32-inch 6K Retina IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 6016 x 3384. In addition, the display offers P3 wide color gamut coverage and true 10-bit color support. Likewise, the screen uses polarizer technology to provide a superwide off-axis viewing angle, along with an industry-leading anti-reflective coating to reduce reflections. Meanwhile, the device also incorporates direct LED backlighting with 576 full array local dimming zones and an advanced thermal system, enabling 1,000 nits of sustained full-screen brightness, 1,600 nits of peak brightness, and a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio -- resulting in advanced HDR capabilities dubbed "XDR" (Extreme Dynamic Range) by Apple. From a design perspective, the display uses edge-to-edge glass and 9-millimeter borders housed within an aluminum enclosure. A Pro Stand (sold separately) is also available with tilt and height adjustments, along with a rotation option for orienting the display in portrait mode. And when it comes to connectivity, the screen is designed for use with a single Thunderbolt 3 cable, offering compatibility with Mac products like the new Mac Pro. The Apple Pro Display XDR is set to launch this fall for $4,999, while the Pro Stand will cost an extra $999. In addition, a special matte Pro Display XDR version with nano-texture tech for low reflectivity and less glare will also be available for $5,999. Bose Launches Pre-Orders for New Noise Cancelling Headphones 700[teaser]The company's latest headphones will start shipping at the end of June.[/teaser] Bose has detailed its latest headphone model, the Noise Cancelling Headphones 700. Pre-orders are now live via Amazon for an MSRP of $399 in black or silver color options. "At its best, technology should make us more human, not more dependent on devices," said Brian Maguire, category director, Bose headphones. "No one's bucket list includes more time on a touchscreen, but right now, millions of people are looking down, swiping and typing on a 3x5 display. Pairing our phones and headphones have given us more freedom for calls, and lets us use our personal assistants to get things done. But there are still barriers, and we’ve all experienced them. Our VPA doesn’t understand what we said and dials the wrong number. Or botches our text, so we send it ourselves. Or we’re forced to manually open an app, or hang-up because we’re shouting over a crowd. Noise cancelling headphones have always helped us hear better — but we need to be heard better, too. And no mobile device has solved that problem. No phone, no headphone, and no combination of the two. But the Bose Noise Cancelling 700 changes that. And we can’t wait for people to experience the difference it makes." Building upon the company's previously released QuietComfort headphones, the new wireless Bose 700s offer advanced noise cancelation and voice interface technology. Under the hood, the headphones feature a new acoustic and electronics package, new digital signal processing, and a new eight microphone system. The microphones are used to cancel unwanted noise from reaching a listener's ears with 11 levels of control and no unwanted "hiss." Likewise, the mics are also capable of improving voice pickup for calls and hands-free commands, utilizing a beamform-array and a rejection-array to isolate a user's speech while suppressing other background sounds. And when it comes to music playback, the headphones are engineered with proprietary active equalization, offering a natural and faithful sound without boosted bass, vocals, and treble. Meanwhile, when it comes to voice control, the headphones are compatible with any native VPA, and include integrated Google Assistant and Alexa support. Likewise, an out-of-box software update will enable wake word access to Alexa, allowing users to activate Alexa by simply saying her name. Finally, the unit features stainless-steel components, capacitive touch controls, and up to 20 hours of battery life. The Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 are set to start shipping on June 30. A wireless Bose Earbuds 500 model is also scheduled for release later this year, and a wireless Bose Noise Cancelling Earbuds 700 model is set for release in 2020.
