'Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]A bald Jean-Claude Van Damme and a very hammy Dolph Lundgren will be suiting up for another action-packed sequel coming to Blu-ray this January. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Sony has revealed 'Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning' for Blu-ray on January 22. John (Scott Adkins, 'The Expendables 2') wakes up from a coma to discover his wife and daughter were slaughtered in a brutal home invasion. While John tries to piece his reality back together, things get more complicated when he is pursued by a relentless UniSol (Andrei Arlovski). As John gets closer to Deveraux and the rogue army of genetically enhanced warriors led by back-from-the-dead leader Andrew Scott (Dolph Lundgren), John discovers more about himself and begins to call into question everything he believed to be true. Amazon Prime is Catching Up to Netflix[teaser]Amazon's share has risen fifteen percent over the last two years, while Netflix's has dropped by nine. [/teaser] It's easy to overlook Amazon Prime Instant Video. Amazon sure did when the launched the service. It's improving now, but without basic things like a viewing queue, it was hard to take the offering seriously as a competitor for Netflix. Amazon has been working hard recently and is on its way to being a giant in the streaming game. It helps that the streaming service is built in to the already popular Amazon Prime offer, but now people are buying in just for the streaming. In fact, 18% of Netflix subscribers are also using Amazon Prime Instant Video. Source: Home Media MagazinePosted Mon Nov 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM PST by: -

Research Firm Says to Expect OLED Sets to Ship This Year[teaser]There's not much of this year left, but with the big push towards UHDTVs, OLED technology needs to get its foot in the door. [/teaser] OLED sets are something we've been dreaming about for years now. The impressive technology has been shown at tradeshows and at press events, but to say that the releases thus far have been limited would be generous. We've seen almost no movement in the OLED market. The sudden and significant push towards UHDTV is a wakeup call to OLED makers, who need to get their TVs to be seen by the public while they still have relevance. If 4K gains public acceptance before OLED, you can bet we'll be sitting back and talking about when we'll finally see reasonably priced, mass produced UHD OLED sets. There are two big things standing in the way of OLED TVs and they're significant. The first is supply, of which there isn't much. Then there is the issue of cost, of which there is quite a bit. UHD sets will get cheaper as time goes on, and if they're close to OLED price points, OLED doesn't stand a chance. Try convincing the average TV buyer that they'd rather pay a premium price for a lower resolution. Source: TWICEPosted Mon Nov 5, 2012 at 09:00 AM PST by: -
'Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]The Special Jury Prize winner at the Sundance Film Festival will receive the Blu-ray treatment in December. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, MPI has revealed they are working on the acclaimed documentary 'Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry' for Blu-ray on December 4. One of the most famous and successful artists in the world, Ai Weiwei has earned international acclaim as much for his provocative art works as for his political activism in the fight against oppression. In Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry, journalist and filmmaker Alison Klayman is granted unprecedented access to Ai to present the first feature-length portrait of the sculptor, photographer, filmmaker and installation artist who was widely praised for his work on the "Bird's Nest" stadium for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. But that same year his criticism of the Chinese government following the Sichuan earthquake that claimed thousands of schoolchildren made him a target of the powers that be. Presenting a rare look inside modern China while documenting the courageous Ai's artistic process in preparation for major museum exhibitions, his intimate exchanges with family members, and his increasingly public clashes with the police and the government, Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry is a unique portrait of the man behind the headlines. Specs have yet to be revealed, but supplements include deleted scenes and the original trailer. Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.98. You can find the latest specs for 'Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under December 4.Posted Mon Nov 5, 2012 at 08:00 AM PST by: -
