PS Audio is Now Selling Direct to Consumers Online[teaser]With specialty audio and video retailers on the decline, PS Audio is now selling its goods online. [/teaser] The retail environment used to be a much friendlier place for A/V specialty shops with high-end gear and personal service, but those places have been closing their doors in recent years. PS Audio says that this, in combination with an increase in unauthorized retailers, has driven the company to sell its products online, directly to the consumer. "It’ll be great for customers not close to one of our brick and mortar retailers," says PS Audio CEO Paul McGowan. "I am most excited for our customers who now have more choices and more freedom to choose from retailers they can trust." PS Audio's new online store also gives customers the chance to test out some products. The company has a 30 day no-obligations return policy that includes free FedEx shipping both ways. If you find that something isn't a great fit for you, you can send it back absolutely free. Source: Electronic HousePosted Fri Nov 2, 2012 at 10:43 AM PDT by: -

Boxee TV is now in Walmart Retail Stores[teaser]The unique DVR/streamer combination is now available to the masses at $99. [/teaser] Boxee TV isn't what hardcore digital media fans were hoping for in the next iteration of Boxee products, but it's definitely an interesting new gadget. It functions as a DVR, but without any local storage. Instead of sitting on a hard drive, your content goes online, ready to be viewed from wherever you are. It's a bit of a strange concept, even for those who are already on board with the whole digital distribution thing, and the idea of being limited to certain channels is a bit of a blow. Still, this is where Boxee and Walmart are putting their bets this holiday season. The mega-chain will be the exclusive carrier of the Boxee TV through the season, and will provide signage and information on the device inside of stores. Sony Says the Film Unit is Not For Sale, Despite Rumors[teaser]You can bet the Spider-Man franchise is looking really good to Disney right about now. [/teaser] After another quarter full of disappointing sales it wouldn't be a surprise to see a big change occur at Sony. Companies in the kind of shape Sony is in often shift their focus, restructure their organization or, more excitingly, sell off their assets. Rumor has it that Sony will be selling off its film division to help keep the company going. That's a huge piece of Sony and would definitely be a hot commodity, especially for the acquisition-happy Disney which could then add in Spider-Man to the next Avengers film. Sony president Kaz Hirai says that there is no sale planned and that the company hasn't even considered it. "Sony is comprised of electronics, entertainment and financial services businesses," says Hirai, "and our entertainment companies have a stable business foundation and are poised for future growth." Sharp, Toshiba and Panasonic Report Lowering Sales and Increasing Losses[teaser]LG and Sony are doing a bit better, but it's still not all sunshine. [/teaser] Though Samsung posted some incredible growth for this last quarter, the rest of the industry isn't doing so hot. Sharp, Toshiba and Panasonic all reported losses that resulted in part from lower sales across the board. Sony experienced flat sales figures – year to year, Sony sales were unchanged. It's not growth, but it's definitely better than the alternative. Sony also reported that though they lost money in the quarter, they've managed to narrow that loss down. LG managed to hold out and continue to make a profit on its wares. Sales were down in most categories, with home appliance being the exception, but still managed to post what the company press release calls "solid net income."
