'Cleopatra' Blu-ray Up For Pre-Order![teaser]The 1963 Academy Award nominee for Best Picture is coming to Blu-ray later this year! [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, 20th Century Fox is working on 'Cleopatra' for Blu-ray sometime in 2013. The historical epic starring Elizabeth Taylor as the Egyptian queen was nominated for nine Oscars and won four including Best Art Direction/Set Decoration (Color), Best Cinematography (Color), Best Costume Design (Color), and Best Effects/Special Visual Effects. Specs and supplements have yet to be revealed, but suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $24.99 while a Blu-ray digibook will also be available at $34.99. Soundbar Sales Skyrocket in 2012[teaser]Compared to 2011, soundbars saw an 82 percent increase in sales at retail. [/teaser] More and more people are starting to embrace the need for improved sound instead of simply sticking with the speakers already present on their TV sets. Not all of them are buying full-on 7.1 channel systems though – an increasing number of people are spending on soundbars. Compared to the previous year, soundbar sales were up 82 percent in 2012. Fourth quarter 2012 compared to the same time period in 2011 is even more drastic, with a 126 percent increase. Quixel Research, which crunched the numbers for this report, counts variety and availability as prime sales motivators. Customers are free to get a cheap soundbar at Walmart, step up to something with a bit more quality and a subwoofer, or even spend on luxury sound. 'Jubal' and the 1957 '3:10 to Yuma' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]Two classic Delmer Daves westerns starring Glenn Ford will ride onto Blu-ray in May. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Criterion says 'Jubal' is planned for Blu-ray on May 14. A trio of exceptional performances from Glenn Ford, Ernest Borgnine, and Rod Steiger form the center of 'Jubal,' an overlooked Hollywood treasure from genre master Delmer Daves. The Blu-ray will feature 1080p, a DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack, and supplements include a booklet featuring an essay by critic Kent Jones. On the same day, Criterion will also be bringing '3:10 to Yuma' to Blu-ray. In this beautifully shot and acted, psychologically complex western, Van Heflin is a mild-mannered cattle rancher who takes on the task of shepherding a captured outlaw, played with cucumber-cool charisma by Glenn Ford, to the train that will take him to prison. 'The Princess and the Pilot' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]The anime film based on Koroku Inumura's novel is coming in May. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Paramount has revealed 'The Princess and the Pilot' for a Blu-ray release on May 14. The war between the Levamme Empire and the Amatsukami Imperium has been raging for years. In the midst of this struggle, the prince of the Levamme Empire declares his love for Juana del Moral and vows to end the war in one year as part of his marriage proposal. When the Amatsukami catch wind of this, they assault the del Moral residence, targeting Juana's life. As a last-ditch effort to bring the prince his bride, the San Maltilia Airforce employs a mercenary of mixed blood - a bestado - to fly Juana to the prince in secret. The pilot, Charles, accepts the mission... but traversing an ocean alone, and into enemy territory, proves a much more dangerous ordeal than anyone could have anticipated. LG Puts $655 Million Into OLED Mass Production[teaser]The company expects to be up to full production numbers in the first half of 2014. [/teaser] We've been waiting a long time now for OLED to hit the marketplace in any significant way and at this point it seems to be inevitable. The folks at LG have pumped over half a billion dollars into getting their manufacturing up to speed and expect to be pumping out a significant amount of OLED sets by early 2014. As far as exact numbers go, LG says they'll be able to handle around 26,000 input sheets, which translate to 156,000 55-inch TVs. 'Tiger & Bunny' Comes to Blu-ray[teaser]Two sets of the anime TV series are on their way to Blu-ray. [/teaser] In an announcement to retailers, Warner Brothers/Viz Media has revealed 'Tiger & Bunny: Set 1' is due to hit Blu-ray on February 19, while 'Tiger & Bunny: Set 2' will be available on the high-definition format on May 14. Stern Bild City is a thriving metropolis where superheroes called NEXTs protect the streets, sponsors pull the strings, and a hugely popular show called Hero TV captures all of it. Veteran hero Kotetsu Kaburagi (voiced by Hiroaki Hirata in the original Japanese and Wally Wingert in the English dub) and hotheaded new hero Barnaby Brooks, Jr. (Masakazu Morita, Yuri Lowenthal) are forced to team up not only to protect Stern Bild City, but to earn as many points on Hero TV as possible. Joined by a diverse cast of heroes, all with different powers and answering to their own corporate sponsors, Tiger and Bunny must find a way to work together, uncover the secret of the Ouroboros, and earn enough points to become this year's King of Heroes. In Set 2, Kotetsu and Barnaby, hailed as the heroes who saved Stern Bild, face a volley of media attention that includes their learning how to dance. Kotetsu also deals with his conflicted feelings about continuing as Wild Tiger and visits his hometown to spend time with his family. He tries to discuss his feelings with Barnaby, but when a possible new lead comes up, Kotetsu gives his full attention to helping Barnaby find the murderer of his parents.
