Videogame Releases: Week of January 2nd, 2011

I hope you got plenty of videogames for Christmas, because this is going to be another dry week for new releases. Very dry. Not until next week will things get back to normal.

Lost in Shadow (Wii)

This is probably the most promising game of the bunch, but don’t expect a lot from Hudson’s latest offering. You play as a shadow, platforming and battling your way through level after level. It’s a unique concept, but even the best concept needs solid gameplay to back it up. ‘Lost in Shadow’ might be worth a rental, but don’t jump on it without trying it first.

Sherlock Holmes and the Mystery of Osborne House (DS)

To its credit, Frogware is one of the only companies still making adventure games. To its detriment, the developer is not very good at it. If the latest ‘Sherlock Holmes’ game is anything like the 2008 title ‘Dracula: Origins’, you’re going to want to avoid it.

Emergency 2012 (PC)

I’m really scraping the bottom of the barrel to find a third release this week, which should give some indication of the quality of the ‘Emergency’ game series from ValuSoft. It’s a German game that simulates the micromanagement of emergency services at disaster scenes. How niche can you get?

Monkey Island just got a rerelease, and is quite good.

Indie developers are doing quite well. Check out Kings Quest 9 The Silver Lining, AGD Interactive, ScummVM, and Infamous Adventures. I tried posting links earlier, but it shot back at me accusing me of spaming the board.

    • How dare you spam the board!

Once I get back from CES and finally have some time to relax (it comes so soon after Christmas!) I’m definitely going to take a look at the King’s Quest game. I have high hopes 🙂
