Videogame Releases: Week of April 8th, 2012

The doldrums of April continue this week. The only new videogame releases worth mentioning are three downloadable arcade titles, one on PSN and two on XBLA. Personally, I haven’t found many XBLA games that I play on a regular basis. I typically just end up feeling like I spent $10 on a $0.99 iPhone app. Regardless, here’s what y’all have to look forward to this week.

Skullgirls (PSN)

This is a stylistic (in other words: pretty cartoony) 2D fighting game. It appears to be coming for XBLA and mobile devices as well, but that’s hard to say at the moment. Did someone just write a “Why don’t video games have set release dates like Blu-rays?” article? No? Let’s get on that, please.

Fez (XBLA)

Here’s a curious-looking platformer where you can move the camera view around the platforms. I played ‘Little Big Planet’ a touch, but haven’t really been a platformer since the original ‘Mario Bros.’

Splatters (XBLA)

No, not THOSE kind of splatters. This is a physics-based game where you explode…, errr… splatter things. See? It’s basically a smartphone game.

  1. Fez looks like something that would have interested me 15 years ago. In fact, the graphics remind me of the original 3dfx Voodoo, or like someone trying to do 3D on the PSX. Not impressed.

Splatter looks interesting. Wonder if they have a demo.
