Videogame Releases: Week of January 19th, 2014

The January doldrums are still in full effect with this week’s videogame releases, but at least Vita owners can learn how to olli.

OlliOlli (PS Vita)

OlliOlli‘ is a lot like a side-scrolling endless runner, except that it has 50 set levels, is meant to be competitive, and is built around skatebaording. Touting a high difficulty, the game even has players attempt daily spots – as in, practice this one area to get the most points – but only the actual ranked run will count. This looks like a great game for Vita owners.

KickBeat: Steam Edition (PC)

Zen Studios worked wonders by making ‘KickBeat’, a rhythm fighter game on the PS3 and Vita. With ‘KickBeat: Steam Edition‘, the game has been expanded with additional songs, plus the ability to make a custom soundtrack out of music from your PC. Fighting enemies in sync with music is a blast, and it’s almost surprising that no one ever tried it before.

Lucifer Ring (PSN for PS3)

‘Lucifer Ring’ is an old PSOne game that’s being brought back and released through the PSOne Import program. It looks like an arcade 3D hack-‘n-slash / beat-’em-up, and may be awesome if you can stand the early 3D game style.

Insurgency (PC)

‘Insurgency’ is another grass roots shooter designed to provide both competitive and co-op FPS action without perks or leveling. The game is squad-based and has a thriving fan base. As an Early Release title, you expect a lot more to come in terms of development.
