Videogame Releases for the Week of August 8, 2010

I had a class once with an Australian guy. This is slightly relevant. We were asked to stand up, introduce ourselves and talk about our interests. Aussie man stood proudly and said, “My name’s Pete and I love gridiron!” Well, if Pete plays videogames, he’s a happy man today. Because it’s ‘Madden’ day, that’s why.

Madden NFL 11 (360, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii)

It’s a foregone conclusion, isn’t it? Nothing I can do or say will change your mind about this one. It’s ‘Madden.’ That’s all you need to know. Sure, I could go on about the new online team play mode or the improvements to franchise, but really, your mind’s made up. You love ‘Madden’ or you don’t. I’ll be passing on this one again because I know nothing about football and ‘Madden’ refuses to teach me.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (PS3)

The movie ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’ finally comes out this weekend. As you can tell by the amazing trailer, both the game and the movie are love letters to everything wonderful in the world. By “everything wonderful,” I mean “beat ’em up games.” And by “in the world,” I mean “are awesome.” The game’s out for PS3 today and hitting Xbox Live later this month.

Monday Night Combat (360)

The Summer of Arcade is just about wrapped up, but there are still a few more gems on the way. ‘Monday Night Combat’ is one of them. It borrows pretty heavily from ‘Team Fortress 2’ in the style and attitude, but the match types are quite a bit different. It’s definitely worth checking out the demo.

  1. I felt SO stupid last night. On facebook, a friend of mine put as his status update “Madden 11”. I read it fast, thought it said “Madison 11”. I replied, “Dude, I did not know you had an 11 year old daughter!”. About two minutes later, my brain rebooted, and I recommented. I am notorious about fast reading Facebook status updates, and making crazy comments.

That being said, I haven’t played madden in 12 years. I don’t understand the plays. In the end, I just picked what sounded cool, got mad at my guys for running in wierd ways around the field, and half the time would try to take over control and just throw the ball.

That being said, I got news from Playstation network that a new RPG demo went live in the store last night. I will probably download that when I get home from work
