The Trailer Park: Unofficial Remakes, the Sequel

Like I said in a recent Trailer Park post, too many movies today feel like Frankensteined vehicles of dullness. Either Hollywood is getting lazier with each passing year, or creative originality has completely vanished. However we look at it, a good chunk of new releases are either remakes and reimaginings or clearly rehashed ideas from other projects. Here are two more:

‘Goon’

While no specific movie comes to mind when watching this trailer, this still feels like a bad case of déjà vu. Haven’t we seen this before somewhere? The whole thing seems like a hodgepodge of sports comedies from the last two decades, from ‘Happy Gilmore’ to ‘Semi-Pro’. This movie from the same director of ‘FUBAR’ and ‘Take Me Home Tonight’ looks like it might have several laughs spread throughout, especially with Sean William Scott in the lead. But it probably won’t be very memorable if it turns out to be a mishmash of the same old, same old.

‘Wanderlust’

Do we really need another version of ‘Did You Hear About the Morgans?’ already? Despite a chuckle or two in this two-minute preview, that question was all that kept running through my head. Sure, Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston probably make a better comedy duo than Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker, but there’s no need to put them together in a concept that didn’t work the first time around. Contemporary hippies are also too easy a target to poke fun at, since they seem more out of place today than ever before, which only makes the movie appear rather lazy. Added to that, I’m not sure if it’s the predictability of the plot or a fault in the trailer, but who can’t guess that the ending will come with a happier and stronger marriage?
