This week’s featured movie trailers focus on a pair of upcoming animated titles. Sony Pictures Animation brings monsters to a secluded hotel, while Disney takes on the world of videogames without Pixar’s input.
Hotel Transylvania
Overlooking the fact that Adam Sandler lends his voice to Dracula, one of the most iconic Hollywood monsters in cinema history, this animated horror comedy looks like amusing fun. The jokes are likely geared towards younger viewers, but that’s never stopped me from enjoying an animated film. Besides, it features monsters! Living in a hotel! What’s not to like? Oh, right, Sandler stars in it. Oh well. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

Wreck-It Ralph
Now this looks like a total blast! A videogame character tires of doing the same job over and over again without advancing to the next level. The premise already sounds wonderfully creative and original. The preview promises spectacular fun once the character abandons his post and enters the world of videogames. I love that he stumbles into the ‘Halo’/’Call of Duty’ universe to discover the realism and violence of shooter games. I’m really excited to check this out in November with my daughter, who’s a serious gamer.

Wreck-It Ralph looks great.
Where are all the comments this week? The Bonus View is lonely!

I know that ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ isn’t from Pixar, but it sure seems like a Pixar approximation.
The human characters are overly round, just like the predominant Pixar style. The trailer seems to indicate a need for the lead character (and society) to remember the simpler times and how they provided an inherent satisfaction. In Pixar fashion, I expect the movie to be about 30 minutes longer than it needs to be.
So while I like the premise and the cameos, I don’t expect something original, creative, and entertaining like ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.’

Wow, ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ seems destined for greatness! How did they clear all the rights? Ever Bowser there!

That scene with Ralph talking to the other video game ‘bad guys’ has sold me on the movie. I don’t need anything else. Give me that…awesome.
The zombie? Fantastic.

What can I say that everyone else hasn’t said already. “Wreck-it Ralph” looks great!
