It’s Christmas time and the holiday slowdown is in full effect. Only a handful of new Blu-rays will be released this week. That’s to be expected. Most people who celebrate have already finished their Christmas shopping, and everyone else is just waiting for the season to be over.
Honestly, only one title is even worth mentioning this week – the horror sequel ‘Insidious: Chapter 2‘. A horror movie at Christmas? I suppose that’s counter-programming. Between this and ‘The Conjuring’, director James Wan had a pretty big year in 2013. However, even though the ‘Insidious’ sequel raked in a hefty profit, most viewers felt that Wan put all of his energy into ‘The Conjuring’ and just phoned this one in.
Sadly, after finishing these two movies, Wan was tapped to take the helm of next year’s ‘Fast & Furious 7’, the production of which has obviously been jeopardized by the unexpected death of star Paul Walker.
Amazon has a couple of mysterious listings for something called the ‘MGM 90th Anniversary Blu-ray Collection’, but no details on what that is, exactly. My assumption is that it’s just a compilation of a bunch of previously released discs, some of which you may already own.
Is it even worth running a poll today? Really, the question should be: Will you buy ‘Insidious: Chapter 2’ or will you just sit this week out? I expect that most of our readers will sit the week out.
