Videogame Releases: Week of July 6th, 2014

In this week’s latest batch of videogames, Telltale’s excellent ‘The Wolf Among Us’ concludes and one of gaming’s most enduring titles comes to the PS4.

The Wolf Among Us: Cry Wolf (360, PS3, PC, iOS)

Telltale Games’ ‘The Wolf Among Us’ had a rocky start, but as it heads into the fifth and final episode of the season, it’s poised to be an all-time great. All the death, the fights and the fantastic depravity has been leading up to ‘Cry Wolf‘. For anyone who’s been waiting, now is the time to experience being the big bad in ‘The Wolf Among Us’.

Another World (Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Wii U, Vita, 3DS)

Another World‘ (a.k.a. ‘Out of This World’) was well ahead of its time in 1991. Part adventure game and part platformer, it’s both a wondrous sci-fi journey and a challenging game in its own right. Players must navigate levels while facing punishing enemies and puzzles that refuse to fit any exact mold.

This is the console port of the 20th Anniversary version that has been out on PC for a while, and Xbox One just recently. You can switch on the fly between original and retouched visuals, sound and even difficulty. This game is featured quite rightly at the MOMA. It’s a must for those interested in something both ahead of its time and yet persistently relevant.

MouseCraft (PS4, PS3, PC, Vita)

MouseCraft‘ is sort of like ‘Lemmings’ meets ‘Tetris’. It’s been in Steam Early Access since last year, so it should have grown beyond the pitfalls common to PC puzzlers. You play as a crazed scientist cat, and must get mice through each of your rather dangerous experiments. This could be a real blast and a great game to exercise the mind.

Sacra Terra: Kiss of Death (PS3)

From the iPad realm comes ‘Sacra Terra: Kiss of Death‘, a game built around the misdeeds of a Succubus. It’s a puzzler with a heavy Gothic theme, and it may be really fun in spite of its simplistic click nature.

Wow I totally forgot about “Out of this World”, I remember playing the hell outta that game on SNES. I agree it was ahead of it”s time, I also remember it being frustrating as hell!

    • I’ve been shot by lasers or fallen to my death or drowned, many, many times in ‘Another World.’ Those underground creatures that eat you are extremely annoying until you learn to mostly avoid them. The worst puzzle I can recall is getting the chandelier/light fixture to fall on that one guard.

Oh yeah, haha I’ve been greased by those alien guards a ridiculous amount of times in that game. I wish they were releasing this title for the 360 since, I don’t own either next-gen console…..le boo hoo.

  2. How the hell do you get rid of the Subscribe to the Playstation Channel ad to go away from atop the youtube video for Mousecraft?

Ad placement for a product I have no interest in is getting quite annoying.
