'Swamp Thing' Blu-ray Features Detailed[teaser]Bonus supplements have now been revealed for the Blu-ray release of Wes Craven's 1982 fantasy-horror film arriving this August. [/teaser] As previously reported, Scream Factory says 'Swamp Thing' is coming to Blu-ray on August 6. Deep in the Florida everglades, a brilliant scientist, Dr. Alec Holland (Ray Wise), and a sexy government agent, Alice Cable (Adrienne Barbeau), have developed a secret formula that could end world hunger. Little do they know, however, that their arch nemesis, Arcane (Louis Jourdan), is plotting to steal the serum for his own selfish schemes. Looting the lab and kidnapping Cable, Arcane douses Holland with the chemicals and leaves him for dead. Mutated by his own formula, Holland becomes "Swamp Thing" - a half-human/half-plant superhero who will stop at nothing to rescue Cable and defeat Arcane...even if it costs him his life! Specs have yet to be revealed, but the Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack will only feature the 91-minute U.S. theatrical cut of the film (and not the 93-minute unrated cut due to legal issues) and supplements will include: New Audio commentary with writer/director Wes Craven; New Interviews with actress Adrienne Barbeau, Makeup Effects artist Bill Munn, co-creator Len Wein and actor Reggie Batts; Theatrical Trailer; and Photo Galleries. 'The Man Who Knew Too Much (1954)' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]Alfred Hitchcock's remake (of his own film) starring James Stewart and Doris Day will be available in an individual Blu-ray package this August. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Universal has set 'The Man Who Knew Too Much (1954)' for a standalone Blu-ray release on August 6. The disc was first released as part of the 'Alfred Hitchcock: Masterpiece Collection' and you can read Aaron Peck's review here. Hitchcock didn't make a habit of repeating himself, but that didn't stop him from bringing two different versions of 'The Man Who Knew Too Much' to the screen: the first in 1934, which the Master of Suspense later likened to "the work of a talented amateur," and the second in 1956, which he touted as being "made by a professional." The thriller follows American tourists Ben and Josephine McKenna (Stewart and Day) who, while vacationing in Morocco, learns of a plot to assassinate the Prime Minister at the Royal Albert Hall. However, he can't turn to the police without endangering his young son (Christopher Olsen), who's been kidnapped to ensure McKenna's silence. The Blu-ray will feature 1080p video, a DTS-HD Master Audio Mono soundtrack, and supplements will include: The Making of The Man Who Knew Too Much, Production photographs, and Theatrical trailer. Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.98. Samsung's Two New UHD TVs Priced for Korea[teaser]Pre-orders begin June 1st for Samsung's cheapest 4K models. [/teaser] 4K UHD TV prices continue to tumble. Earlier this year Samsung introduced its first Ultra HD set, the 85 inch S9, which came with a $40,000+ price point. Now Samsung follows up with a pair of F9000 models in both 65 and 55 inch models. The models will be available first in Korea, and the pricing is considerable more accessible than the S9. The 65F9000 is being priced at close to $8,000 while the 55F9000 is priced at roughly to $5,700. Both sets include Samsung upscaling technology, a must at this stage of the new format. More intriguingly though is the inclusion of a voucher for free 2014 upgrade kit. That upgrade possibility leaves the door open for these sets to be better than HDMI 1.4 capable and eventually being part of what must be the newer standard necessary to get higher frame rate 4K content. That outside hope may be just enough to get some potential early adopters onboard. The new models are also a bit more traditional in design when compared with the 85 inch S9 and its easel-like frame. With both Sony and Samsung positioning sub $10K UHD TV sets, the new format seems well on its way towards accessibility. Ultimately, combining affordable sets with just about any kind of semi practical UHD content delivery method seems to be the foregone conclusion expected by many.
