Best Buy Cutting Back on DVDs and CDs[teaser]The company will be clearing space for consumer electronics and videogames this holiday season. [/teaser] It looks like Best Buy is making some changes this holiday season. The electronics giant is going to be cutting back on the shelf space allotted for CDs and DVDs to make room for tablet PCs, videogames and netbooks. Before you get too excited though, it sounds like CDs are going to be getting the worst of it. "This will be enabled by our reorganization of the DVD and CD sections," says CEO Brian Dunn. "The CD section in particular will shrink in space allotment." The article in Daily Finance where Dunn was quoted made no mention at all of Blu-ray discs, which may or may not be considered a part of Best Buy's DVD section. Either way, look for a slimmed down section this holiday season. Source: Daily Finance Tip courtesy of George Kopena. Thanks GeorgePosted Thu Sep 30, 2010 at 09:00 AM PDT by: -

Yamaha Brings Out the RX-V867 Receiver[teaser]The new receiver offers networking, 3D support and dual HDMI outs all at a low price point. [/teaser] The Yamaha 67 series has received a lot of praise, and as the new top dog in the line the RX-V867 has a lot to live up to. Like the rest of the receivers in the line, the V867 offers HD audio decoding, 3D support and plenty of HDMI inputs. Where it steps up, though, it does so in a big way. It all starts with networking support. The RX-V867 can handle streams from internet radio stations and sources like Rhapsody, as well as music files from your PC in MP3, WMA, AAC, FLAC and other formats. Things kick up a bit more with the addition of a second HDMI output, something that's often sought after but rarely included. The 867 also comes equipped with IntelliAmp technology that allows for bi-amp configuration or the use of an additional zone. All that and more comes in one package for an MSRP of $899. 'The Secret of Kells' Blu-ray Features Added[teaser]Supplements have been detailed for the Academy Award-nominated critically-acclaimed animated feature receiving a high-definition release this fall. [/teaser] As previously reported, New Video Group has announced 'The Secret of Kells' for a high-definition release on October 5. 'The Secret of Kells,' directed by Tomm Moore, transports viewers to a remote medieval outpost of Ireland, where young Brendan (Evan McGuire) embarks on a forbidden adventure that begins when a celebrated master illuminator named Aidan (Mick Lally) arrives from foreign lands carrying a book brimming with secret wisdom and powers. To help complete the magical book, Brendan must overcome his deepest fears to travel on a dangerous and mysterious quest that takes him away from his uncle Abbot Cellach (Brendan Gleeson) and into the enchanted forest. He meets the fairy Aisling (Christen Mooney), an enigmatic young wolf-girl, who helps him along the way. But, with the barbarians closing in, will Brendan's determination and artistic vision help illuminate the darkness and prevail against evil? "We are extremely proud of and bowled over by the response to Kells. That audiences at home can revel in the excitement of the film is vitally important to us," said Mr. Moore. "Families and kids across the country have been inspired by Kell's imagery and storyline. We hope the film remains a treasure for them for years to come." Hailed by critics and audiences alike as one of the most beautiful animated films of recent times, 'The Secret of Kells' (75 minutes) is the surprise nomination for Best Animated Feature at this year's Academy Awards. Specs haven't been revealed yet, but there will be two hours of fascinating exclusive bonus content, including audio commentary with the director, co-director and art director; a special "The Voices of Ireland" segment that includes voice recording sessions with Brendan Gleeson, Evan McGuire, Christen Mooney and Mick Lally; a director's presentation of pre-production sketches and inspirational images, and more. In addition, the DVD/Blu-ray combo includes a special collectible 24-page full-color prequel graphic novel by Mr. Moore that follows Aisling's and Brendan's adventures that took place before the story in the film begins. Get Your 3D Fix on Comcast For Free[teaser]Sick of watching the same few 3D Blu-rays over and over? If you're a Comcast customer, you can get a few extra 3D flicks for free. [/teaser] We're not really sure why Comcast hasn't made a bigger deal about this, especially since 3D TV owners are starved for content right about now. If you subscribe to the cable service, you can check out a few hours worth of free 3D content absolutely free. Keep in mind, this is free 3D content, so you're not going to be getting those big budget flicks you might be hoping for. Still, there's a pretty decent lineup. To access the movies, go to the On Demand menu of your cable box and then pick Free Movies. From there, scroll on over to 3D movies and you'll be greeted with a list of eight different selections. Among these you'll find three documentaries, one Sigfried and Roy magic special, and three 3D movies. If you run into any problems viewing the content, you may need to adjust your cable box to 1080i manually, rather than letting it select the resolution automatically. You can find more info on the troubleshooting in the thread on AVS Forum. Tip courtesy of Marc Krachunis. Thanks Marc!Posted Wed Sep 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM PDT by: -
