Oppo Raises the Bar With the BDP-93[teaser]It does everything the legendary BDP-83 did and more. [/teaser] You just don't get much better than the BDP-83 when it comes to high-end features at a reasonable price. It set a benchmark for Blu-ray players, but since it's lacking support for some more modern affectations, it's starting to feel a little old. Enter the BDP-93. Oppo's got a new model coming out that's set to again take the consumer electronics world by storm. The BDP-93 does just about everything its predecessor did and so much more. There's built in WiFi for starters, and the ability to stream video from Netflix, CinemaNow and more content partners to be announced in the future. It can do 3D as well, which fans of the tech will be delighted to hear. It also sports a Marvell KYOTO G2 chipset and Qdeo processing and dual HDMI outputs for separate audio and video paths or dual monitors. So how much will this cost you? The same $499 as the BDP-83. Optoma Provides a 3D Solution for 720p Projectors[teaser]The 3D-XL converter allows 720p output of 1080p 3D Blu-rays. [/teaser] There's nothing wrong with going 720p, especially if you're one of those that shelled out for a nice projector before 1080p really kicked in. If you're primarily playing videogames and watching television, the resolution difference doesn't even matter for most content. But 3D is a different story. If you're hoping to enjoy 3D Blu-rays on your 720p projector, you'll be in for disappointment unless you pick up the new 3D-XL converter from Optoma. The 3D-XL takes that HDMI 1.4 1080p signal from your Blu-ray player and converts it into a HDMI 1.3 720p signal that your projector can understand. You'll still need a projector that does 120Hz of course, but as long as you've got that – and the appropriate 3D accessories like glasses and a transmitter – you'll be ready to go. Roku Adds Hulu Plus To the Lineup[teaser]Roku's players get more impressive with every upgrade. [/teaser] Roku made a big splash when they announced a whole new line of inexpensive and incredibly capable players just days after Apple debuted their own set top box. Now they've added even more to their device by way of Hulu Plus. Here's the really cool part. Roku isn't just adding Hulu Plus capability to the newest line of players like most companies. They're not excluding anything. Every single Roku player out there will be able to access the new provider. You'll need a Hulu Plus subscription, but that shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Roku says that you'll see Hulu Plus show up sometime in the next few months, likely when the full version launches. Source: SlashgearPosted Fri Oct 1, 2010 at 09:00 AM PDT by: -

Samsung's New App Lets You "Explore 3D"[teaser]You'll only get previews for now, but the new app is the first 3D streaming solution on the market. [/teaser] The newest addition to the Samsung HDTV app store is a mix of amazing and disappointing. Let's start with the good stuff. Samsung is calling the new app "Explore 3D," and boasts that it's the first and only option for streaming 3D. You don't need a 3D Blu-ray player, just a Samsung 3D TV and a pair of 3D glasses and you're ready to go. The disappointing part is the content. Like everything 3D right now, Samsung's 3D offerings are extremely limited. You can check out 3D movie trailers for 'Shrek Forever After,' 'Megamind,' and 'How to Train Your Dragon.' Hulu Plus Coming to the TiVo Premiere[teaser]It's a good 'get' for TiVo, though there's no date set for its inclusion. [/teaser] Last year it seemed like Netflix streaming capabilities were one of the most important features to look for. If a Blu-ray player or set-top box didn't have Netflix, it wasn't worth looking at twice. Now that the movie streaming service is ubiquitous it looks like Hulu may be next. TiVo has announced that Hulu Plus will be coming to TiVo Premier DVRs sometime within the next few months. There's no set date at the moment, but it seems likely that the changeover will occur when Hulu Plus finally comes out of beta. To use Hulu Plus on your TiVo Premier you'll need a Hulu Plus subscription, as you might imagine. It seems like a bit of overkill for new shows, which you could easily record. For older shows though, it might be worth having around. Source: LA News MonitorPosted Thu Sep 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM PDT by: -
