What to expect when you're expecting 'Mirror's Edge 2'
In this quiet pre-E3 week, DICE would like to remind everyone that, yes, 'Mirror's Edge 2' still exists, albeit under a new title, 'Mirror's Edge: Catalyst'. Why 'Catalyst', you ask? Sara Jansen, the game's producer, will tell you:
"This is not a sequel, this is not 'Mirror's Edge 2'. We have landed on a vision that honors the first game — pushing the boundaries of first person movement and diving deeper into the story behind our heroine Faith — but also brings a lot of great new, interesting gameplay and features to the experience for our players."
By all accounts, basically, the gist is that 'Catalyst' will be a full on reboot, which would makes sense considering, as great as it was, the original 'Mirror's Edge' felt very much like a proof of concept rather than a final iteration. DICE apparently agrees: "'Mirror’s Edge' has always had a special place in the hearts of all of us at DICE. The first game had a lot of promise. It was unlike anything else in terms of the gameplay and style — it had a unique soul. But as much as we loved that game, we knew it could be more. So that’s what we have set out to do as we introduce 'Mirror’s Edge' to a new generation."
Jansen also went on to note that yes, we'll know quite a bit more about the game by the time E3 is a done deal. I was actually in the audience in 2013 when this thing got announced. The scream of joy that went up from the crowd is still the loudest thing I've ever heard, and I've seen Slayer live. Our bodies are all ready.
