Videogame Releases: Week of September 29th, 2013

The warm-up music and those sounds of shootaround practice you hear can only mean that it’s time for 2K Sports’ NBA series. The week also brings us some artier options from both Nintendo and Sony. All-in-all, it’s a great week for videogames.

Note: October 1st is also the launch day for ‘GTA Online’, the online mode of ‘Grand Theft Auto V‘.

NBA 2K14 (360, PS3, PC)

The 2K series has never looked back since taking over the pro basketball gaming franchise some fourteen years ago. This year, the king returns with ‘NBA 2K14‘. One of the cooler, low-key features is the presence of more than a dozen Euroleague teams. Xbox One and PS4 versions are coming later this year.

rain (PSN)

rain‘ is like a Sony-backed indie film, which means that its the perfect alternative to mainstream shooters. The game is also a story about some children told in the rain.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (Wii U)

The sun sure has set and then risen again on the first GameCube installment of ‘The Legend of Zelda’. Fortunately, with a nicely tailored HD and widescreen update, as well as a number of welcome adjustments to the sailing and certain quests, ‘The Wind Waker HD‘ is ready to be played and judged anew.

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl (3DS)

Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl‘ is a remake of the turn-based dungeon crawler that appeared on the DS some six years ago. The game now has characters and a story, which is a big draw for me.

F1 2013 (PC)

I have to give it up to Codemasters for doing such a great job balancing fun and authenticity with ‘F1 2012’. For this year’s version, ‘F1 2013‘, the game comes in both Classic and standard versions. The Classic offers some real insight into the great teams of the past forty years. 360 and PS3 versions will come later this year.
