Videogame Releases: Week of October 3rd, 2010

That’s right, it’s another big week for videogames. We’ve got a few big releases, an expansion for ‘Left 4 Dead 2,’ the downloadable game ‘Comic Jumper,’ and of course, ‘NBA Jam’ for the Wii.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3)

On paper, this sounds like something out of a fifth grader’s fever dream. “What if the ‘Metal Gear’ guys made a ‘Castlevania’ game and it played like ‘God of War?” It’s crazy, but it’s real, and it’s coming out today. From early reviews and hands-on videos and articles, things are looking good. But it’s a distinctly new direction for the franchise, so it’s hard to say just how things are going to turn out.

Keep an eye out for our review of ‘Lords of Shadow’ next week. We’ve got a review copy coming in soon.

NBA 2K11 (360, PC, PS2, PS3, PSP, Wii)

Basketball fans, rejoice! The pre-season has started, you’re just a few weeks away from the beginning of the real season, and ‘NBA 2K11’ is finally out. In addition to everything you’ve come to expect from the franchise, the Jordan Challenge mode allows you to attempt some of Michael Jordan’s more impressive career feats. You’ll be freaking players every way like MJ. It’s gonna be a good day.

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (360, PS3)

You may be familiar with Ninja Theory (not to be confused with Team Ninja) as the folks who developed the PS3 title ‘Heavenly Sword.’ Their new game ‘Enslaved’ is similar in gameplay if not in style. It features some tremendous voice acting and an incredibly cool dystopian future type setting. And yes, Andy Serkis is involved again too.

Demo for both Castlevania and Enslaved on Xbox Live, make sure you try the latter really fun game that has come out of nowhere.
