Videogame Releases: Week of July 10th, 2011

Things are looking up this week. Instead of a single decent videogame release, we get two noteworthy titles! Of course, you need to be into football or ‘Harry Potter’ if you’re going to care. But still…

NCAA Football 12 (360, PS3)

Ah, football season. Time for tackles and touchdowns and three point shots and high sticking and triple lindys and all sorts of other terms that may or not be related to a sport that I know nearly nothing about. Well, outside of what I learned from ‘Madden 95’ and ‘Tecmo Super Bowl’.

The exciting thing, typically, about college football games is that they’re a testing ground for new features. If EA is considering something for ‘Madden’, they’ll try it out in ‘NCAA’ first. This year is a little different since there aren’t any major changes to the game. Then again, college football fans will be into it either way!

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (360, DS, PC, PS3, Wii)

With all the complaints about spoilers, it still surprises me that videogames based on movies come out before the movies themselves. Then again, it doesn’t hurt to have a game ready for the people who want it, right?

The ‘Harry Potter’ games have a history of being… well, kind of crappy. If you really must get some interactive ‘Harry Potter’ going, this is your only option for now. If you don’t mind waiting, the Lego games will get there eventually, and they’ll be far better.

  1. I LOVE the Harry Potter video games! Its one of my favorite francises, and hands-down the best game-adaptations of movies around! And what is great is that the games are usually quite different depending on which console you get, so there is plenty of value in the games. Quidditch World Cup is probably in my top ten for best video games ever.
