The Best Actress category this year is perhaps a much tighter race than Best Actor. All but one of the nominated actresses already have Oscar statuettes on their mantles. Is this Amy Adams’ year, or is she destined to perpetually be a bridesmaid at the Academy Awards?
When the nominations were first announced, I felt pretty good for Adams’ chances. However, she hasn’t really been part of the conversation in recent weeks. Judging by buzz, the competition seems to be between Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock.
Blanchett previously won a Supporting Actress Oscar, but not Best Actress. Also in her favor, the Academy likes to reward actresses in Woody Allen movies.
On the other hand, Sandra Bullock is very well liked in the industry (very important when the voters are her peers) and had to single-handedly carry one of the biggest blockbuster movies of the year.
Josh’s prediction: Cate Blanchett, but I don’t feel confident about it. (I retyped the name in this sentence several times before finalizing the post.)
I think Blanchett has this one pretty much in the bag, people have been raving about her in Blue Jasmine….
I’ve never thought Sandra Bullock was that great of an actress, but she was so good in Gravity. It was my favorite performance of anyone this year.
I haven’t seen BLUE JASMINE yet, but I believe Cate is the one “lock” for Sunday night.

Haha, when I first read this, I thought you were unsure about how to write “Cate Blanchett”. Kate? Blanchet?
I think Cate Blanchett WILL win, but Sandra Bullock SHOULD win.
