This is the first year EA's 'NHL' franchise is hitting the Xbox One and PS4, the publisher neglecting the franchise in favor of 'Madden,' 'FIFA' and even 'NBA' releases on next-gen consoles on the year of their release. This year, 'NHL 15' goes full out for next-gen, but it looks like the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, despite existing, aren't quite feature-matched.
The guys over at GoodGameBro took the liberty of comparing the feature lists on the official 'NHL 15' pages for the current-gen and old-gen versions. While such graphical flourishes as the living crowds, "unprecedented player likeness" and "12 player NHL collision physics" are expectedly only featured on the Xbox One and PS4, neither do the Superstar Skill Stick, authentic arenas or NBC Sports Gameday Presentation make the list for Xbox 360 and PS3.
On the bright side, both versions are getting a commentary makeover, with "Doc" Emerick and Eddie Olczyk taking the reigns. Only two other "features" make the Xbox 360 and PS3 list: multiplayer NHL collision physics and The Complete Hockey Experience. That list, however, isn't specifically exclusionary, making the comparison of light empirical value, yet worthwhile nonetheless. EA may just be trying to upsell the new-gen versions to get holdouts to bite on the new consoles.
The game hits on Sept. 9 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4 and PS3, though a demo is out right now for the newest consoles.
