'The Replacements' Tackling Blu-ray in January[teaser]Howard Deutch's 2000 football comedy is headed for Blu-ray next year. Pre-orders are now available. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Warner Brothers will be releasing 'The Replacements' on Blu-ray on January 27. The Washington Sentinels are one of the strongest teams in pro football, that is until contract negotiations break down and the Sentinels go on strike. Determined to play the team's schedule, owner Edward O'Neil (Jack Warden) recruits a ragtag band of scab players, to be headed up and whipped into shape by the retired veteran coach Jimmy McGinty (Gene Hackman). At the top of the recruitment list is quarterback Shane Falco (Keanu Reeves), a promising athlete until a catastrophic defeat in the Sugar Bowl dashed his confidence. Joining Falco on the team are Clifford Franklin (Orlando Jones), a receiver who can't catch the ball; Nigel Gruff (Rhys Ifans), a chain-smoking Welsh soccer player; Bateman (Jon Favreau), a former cop with anger management problems; Fumiko (Ace Yonamine), a sumo wrestler new to football; and Wilkinson (Michael Jace), a convict on parole to the Sentinels. Viacom Out-of-Home Viewing Coming to Verizon[teaser]Verizon FiOS customers will soon be able to stream Viacom programming in and out of the home. [/teaser] Viacom and Verizon have announced the renewal of their carriage agreement. The new deal also includes the addition of out-of-home streaming support for live and on-demand playback of Viacom network content for FiOS subscribers. "People want to watch TV anywhere, not just in their living rooms. Disruption in the TV marketplace is happening and Verizon wants to reach agreements with content providers like Viacom that reflect that reality and give people what they want," said Ben Grad, Executive Director, Content Strategy & Acquisition, Verizon. "We are thrilled to extend our long-term distribution partnership with Viacom Media Networks, delivering some of the most recognizable and popular kids, music and entertainment programming available to our customers anytime, anywhere on a variety of platforms from TV to wireless." Under the agreement, Verizon FiOS will carry 25 Viacom networks, including MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, BET, VH1, Spike, TV Land and CMT. Likewise, customers will have full access to live and on-demand content from Viacom stations through the FiOS mobile app -- both in the home and on the go. Subscribers will also be able to watch VOD content on multiple platforms through various Viacom TV Everywhere websites and apps. Three More Dolby Atmos Blu-rays Announced![teaser]The next three titles to feature Dolby's latest audio technology have been revealed. [/teaser] Dolby and Paramount have announced that the upcoming November 4 release of 'Hercules' and the December 16 release of 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' will both include Dolby Atmos mixes. Likewise, Lionsgate has announced that the November 4 release of 'Step Up All In' will also feature an Atmos track. All three movies will join 'Transformers: Age of Extinction,' which became the first Dolby Atmos Blu-ray to hit stores when it was released earlier this week. DirecTV & NFL Renew Sunday Ticket Rights[teaser]The satellite company has extended and expanded its NFL Sunday Ticket agreement. [/teaser] DirecTV and the NFL have announced a new multi-year deal that will allow DirecTV to continue holding the exclusive rights to the NFL's Sunday Ticket package while also gaining expanded rights to stream live games on broadband connections and mobile devices. While specifics on the agreement have not been disclosed, reports from sports business analyst Darren Rovell, indicate that the deal is good for eight years and is estimated to be worth around $1.5 billion annually. "We are pleased to continue our partnership with DIRECTV," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "DIRECTV and NFL SUNDAY TICKET have served our fans well for 20 years and continue to complement our broadcast television packages. We also appreciate DIRECTV's commitment to NFL Network, which it has carried since the channel launched in 2003." Under this new deal, DirecTV will continue to offer its Sunday Ticket package, giving customers access to all out-of-market Sunday afternoon football games in high definition. Subscribers who opt for the NFL Sunday Ticket Max package will also receive streaming support to watch games on mobile devices, a game mix channel to watch up to eight games simultaneously on one screen, the Red Zone channel, the DirecTV Fantasy Zone channel, and Short Cuts for 30 minute replays of games. In addition to Sunday Ticket, the agreement also renews DirecTV's rights to the NFL Network with TV Everywhere. "This new agreement is a testament to the terrific long-term relationship we have with the NFL and its millions of fans across the country," said Mike White, chairman, president and CEO of DIRECTV. "NFL SUNDAY TICKET has always been the centerpiece of DIRECTV's sports leadership and we're pleased to continue our relationship with the NFL and be a part of the league's future growth and success." Meanwhile, AT&T is still on target to purchase DirecTV.
