NBC Brings Live TV Streaming to Android & iOS Devices[teaser]The network has extended its live streaming service to mobile gear. [/teaser] Expanding upon its previously available live internet feed for computers, NBC has added a live streaming option to its iOS and Android apps. The live mobile feature is now available for customers with a supported cable or satellite company. In addition to having an authenticated pay-TV provider login, users will also need to be in select markets where NBC owns their local stations in order to watch live mobile streams. The updated apps also offer full on-demand episodes for current NBC shows like 'The Voice,' 'The Blacklist,' 'State of Affairs,' 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,' 'Days of our Lives' and more. Likewise, classic full episodes from retro shows like 'The A-Team,' 'Miami Vice,' 'Kojak,' 'Battlestar Galactica,' 'The Incredible Hulk,' 'Knight Rider' and more are available as well. Finally, the apps also include clips and previews for 'The Tonight Show,' 'Late Night with Seth Meyers' and 'Saturday Night Live!' NBC's live mobile streaming platform now joins a growing number of supplemental and stand-alone online TV watching services. Sling TV Bolsters Live & On-Demand Movie Content with EPIX Channel Lineup[teaser]More movie channels are coming to the recently launched internet TV service. [/teaser] Sling has announced a new agreement with EPIX that will bring more channels and VOD options to the online streaming television platform. The deal includes EPIX, EPIX2, EPIX3 and EPIX Drive-In plus. "Our customers crave the newest movies like 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' and 'Transformers: Age of Extinction,' but they also have a growing appetite for the classics and EPIX delivers both," said Roger Lynch, CEO of Sling TV. "Sling TV will feature EPIX's linear channels and movies on-demand in an add-on package that is accessible and affordable." In addition to the live EPIX channels, the new deal also includes more than 2,000 on-demand movie and entertainment titles. An exact launch date and pricing plan for the EPIX content will be announced in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the current core Sling TV package includes ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, Adult Swim, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel, ABC Family, CNN, El Rey, and Galavision for $20 per month. In addition, the company will soon offer AMC as part of the same package as well. The service also provides select on-demand content and unique media from Maker Studios, and customers can opt to expand their lineup with three add-on packs for an additional $5 each per month. VLC Media Player Readies Chromecast Streaming Support[teaser]The latest version of the popular media player is set to offer Chromecast support. [/teaser] According to a changelog posted by VLC, VideoLan is prepping a Chromecast streaming option for the upcoming release of VLC 3.0. The free, open-source media player offers robust playback support for virtually any video and audio file type. Once Chromecast support is added, VLC users will be able to cast various media files to their TVs from computers and mobile devices through the streaming dongle. In addition to the Chromecast feature, VLC 3.0 is also expected to offer more upgrades and improvements, including expanded support for YouTube's VP9 video codec. The new format is being used for 4K Ultra HD streaming. An exact release date for VLC 3.0 with Chromecast support has not been announced yet. The current version of VLC is available for free on PCs, Macs, Linux, and Android devices. An iOS app was recently suspended but support is expected to return soon.
