Feast On This! HDD's 4K UHD & Blu-ray Shopping Guide, Week of Nov. 26, 2024Welcome to another rather busy week of disc releases. Typically with the Thanksgiving holiday in the US, and the upcoming Black Friday and Cyber Monday 'holidays', we get a small batch of disc releases. Welcome to Volume 5 Episode 26 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc the week of November 24th - November 30th, as well as a look at announcements from last week. (Header image courtesy of Bing AI.) 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases- Even if you exclude Severin and Vinegar Syndrome that always have new titles to offer us on Black Friday, we still are greeted with quite a few discs just vying to be in your collections. UK Import Monday might not exactly be reliable, but here is where we stand as of press time. From BFI and previously postponed indefinitely, the animated release Watership Down might actually be on the way to our mailboxes? Next up, frequently observed with having dates pushed back, 88 Films' release of Giallo horror Eyeball. This one also gets a web shop exclusive release as well. Well known for their martial arts releases, 88 Films also is on track to release The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk Collection this week as well. US Domestic Tuesday starts with the Criterion Collection and a pair of releases. First from director Guillermo del Toro and a title that has already been released several times by a different studio, the fantasy/romance The Shape of Water. And how about a little classic film crime action with Paper Moon? There are three titles from Shout! Factory this week. The fantasy/romance Bones and All, Rob Cohen action film Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, and the 2016 thriller Rush. Kino Lorber is next with two releases that were originally slate for several weeks ago. The 2006 horror/thriller that was cancelled in 2022 but put back on again, Bug, and a William Friedkin crime/thriller with Tommy Lee Jones, The Hunted. Alfred Hitchcock: The Iconic Film Collection comes to us via Universal Pictures. This set looks identical to the large format book Classic Movie Monsters Collection a while back. The 2006 thriller Zyzzyx Road comes to us via Dark Arts Entertainment. Severin Films releases 2020 Texas Gladiators. From Media Blasters, the comedy crime film Fudoh: The New Generation. This one also includes an English dub. Standard releases of Corpse Mania and The Tenant are available this week from Vinegar Syndrome via Amazon. There is a mixture of releases on Black Friday. Between Vinegar Syndrome, Severin, Dark Force, and a random UK import, there are multiple ways to empty that wallet this week: Last Cannibal World - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Special Edition Hell of the Living Dead - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Slave of the Cannibal God - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Rats: Night of Terror - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Eaten Alive - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Delicatessen - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray SteelBook Looking for Mr. Goodbar - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray (Limited Edition) Looking for Mr. Goodbar - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Congo - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray (Limited Edition) Terror Circus (1974): 50th Anniversary 4K UHD Blu-ray Blu-ray releases- Blu-ray counterparts of the above 4K releases include the (liekly region B locked) The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk Collection (UK Deluxe Limited Edition), US region A/Region-All editions of Paper Moon, Bug, 2020 Texas Gladiators and Fudoh: The New Generation. By volume, excluding Vinegar Syndrome's partner label releases, this week is still quite a doozie when you look at it. As always, here are the highlights... Warner Archive3 Collection's November batch releases this week, titles include Humoresque, Looney Tunes Collector's Choice: Volume 4, Looney Tunes Collector's Choice: Volumes 1-4, Must Love Dogs, That's Entertainment! (1974) and Wait Till Your Father Gets Home (1972-74): The Complete Series. The last title is likely on a delay, but maybe not. From Arrow Video, the long awaited Shawscope Volume Three. Kino Cult Collectors look out for 1,000 Convicts and a Woman! and No. 1 of the Secret Service, numbers 20 and 21 respectively. If you ordered it (like I did) and wondering where it went, Las Vegas: The Complete Series apparently is rescheduled to this week. Thanks for the update Uni! Anime highlights include Attack on Titan: The Final Season - THE FINAL CHAPTERS - Part 3, which also comes as a Limited Edition, and Parasyte - The Maxim Limited Edition SteelBook. Notable announcements from last week: Early in the week, the Criterion Collection has revealed their February slate of releases. Interesting is a word that describes the array. Warner Bros. has officially announced that David Fincher's 'Se7en' Is Coming to 4K UHD & SteelBook January 7th. The standard edition appears to have a little bit of swag in it. No doubt there will be a deluxe deluxe UK edition out there somewhere. Preorders are up for Gladiator 2 and Wicked. The movies barely got any screen time. Release date? No doubt not even close to a good guess, but if I had to, March, 4K Release Calendar 2K/BD Release Calendar Which titles are you buying this week? Which ones are on your wishlist, be it to buy as an impulse buy or to wait for the right price?Posted Mon Nov 25, 2024 at 06:00 AM PST by: -
You Can't Explain It, You Can't Predict It - Turbine Unleashes New 4K UHD Dolby Vision SteelBook & Mediabook Editions of 'Twister' December 5thGermany's Turbine will unleash the most powerful force of nature with their own 4K UHD Mediabook and SteelBook of Jan de Bont's Twister. Set to release December 5th, the new offerings will not only feature the classy classic original poster art on both editions but the 4K disc will be pressed on a BD100 disc with Dolby Vision HDR and the set will also include the remastered 1080p Blu-ray. The damnable misery of being a physical media collector is when there's a rights discrepancy for a fan-favorite title. Do you jump the gun snag the domestic release now, or do you wait to see what the foreign markets bring to the table? Well, those who waited will be treated to a terrific new two-disc release of Jan de Bont's disaster weather epic in 4K with far superior artwork options. Fans will also enjoy the film in 4K with a disc that will include Dolby Vision HDR and will be pressed on a BD100 disc for a likely cleaner encode. The English Atmos track will be the same as we had here, sadly Turbine's exciting Auro3D 13.1 mix from their previous Blu-ray offering won't be carried over. Count Your Blessings Because David Fincher's 'Se7en' Is Coming to 4K UHD & SteelBook January 7th 2025.After an elaborate box set edition popped up for sale early last year (and was quickly canceled), David Fincher's terrifying serial killer thriller Se7en finally sees its 1080p sins absolved for a new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release from Warner Bros. Fincher did an exhaustive restoration of the film and it will see limited IMAX engagements in the U.S., Canada, and abroad starting January 3rd! At long last, a film we've long waited for to see a good and proper 4K upgrade is coming to disc. David Fincher's Se7en has been in the works for some time. After Zavvi and other European retailers offered up an elaborate swag-filled literal Box Set edition of the film for pre-order, it was unceremoniously canceled. Don't know if someone jumped the gun or what happened there, but that big box set is not happening now. However, the good news is that Fincher himself personally oversaw the restoration and HDR grading of the film (which is pretty normal for him). So while we miss out on that box set, we finally get the film in 4K HDR and packed with loads of extra features with a Stylish SteelBook offering as well. The press release we received from Warner Bros didn't indicate HDR grade or audio, but from the back art image of the SteelBook on Amazon, it looks to be HDR10 with DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio. It's All Physical Media Love with The Criterion Collection's 4K UHD & Blu-ray Slate for February 2025After already announcing an impressive January 2025 slate to begin the new year, The Criterion Collection is following up with one hell of a February. For the shortest and coldest month of the year, fans can look forward to some 4K upgrades of old favorites, more Goddard on Blu-ray, and a couple of brand new 4K UHD & Blu-ray additions. The Criterion Collection may not always make a whole lot of sense for what titles arrive in their collections, but I have to hand it to them, they're certainly pulling out some strangely romantic titles this month. We're getting everything from Early Del Toro to Godard to Paul Thomas Anderson all in one slate. Punch Drunk Love - The Criterion Collection 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray 2002 • 95 minutes • Color • Dolby Atmos • 2.35:1 aspect ratio Chaos lurks in every corner of this giddily off-kilter foray into romantic comedy by Paul Thomas Anderson. Struggling to cope with his erratic temper, novelty-toilet-plunger salesman Barry Egan (Adam Sandler, demonstrating remarkable versatility in his first dramatic role) spends his days collecting frequent-flier-mile coupons and dodging the insults of his seven sisters. The promise of a new life emerges when Barry inadvertently attracts the affection of a mysterious woman named Lena (Emily Watson), but their budding relationship is threatened when he falls prey to the swindling operator of a phone sex line and her deranged boss (played with maniacal brio by Philip Seymour Hoffman). Fueled by the careening momentum of a baroque-futurist score by Jon Brion, the Cannes-award-winning Punch-Drunk Love channels the spirit of classic Hollywood and the whimsy of Jacques Tati into an idiosyncratic ode to the delirium of new romance. DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES 4K digital restoration, supervised and approved by director Paul Thomas Anderson, with Dolby Atmos soundtrack One 4K UHD disc of the film presented in Dolby Vision HDR and one Blu-ray with the film and special features Blossoms & Blood, a short 2002 piece by Anderson featuring Adam Sandler and Emily Watson, along with music by Jon Brion Interview with Brion Program featuring behind-the-scenes footage of a recording session for the film’s soundtrack Conversation between curators Michael Connor and Lia Gangitano about the art of Jeremy Blake, used in the film Additional artwork by Blake Cannes Film Festival press conference from 2002 NBC News interview from 2000 with David Phillips, the “pudding guy” Twelve Scopitones Deleted scenes Mattress Man commercial Trailers English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing PLUS: An essay by filmmaker, author, and artist Miranda July 4K UHD + BLU-RAY COMBO EDITION SRP: $49.95PREBOOK: 12/31/24STREET: 2/4/25CAT. Kindly antiques dealer Jesús Gris (Federico Luppi) happens upon an ancient golden device in the shape of a scarab, and soon finds himself the possessor and victim of its sinister, addictive powers, as well as the target of a mysterious American named Angel (a delightfully crude and deranged Ron Perlman). Featuring marvelous makeup effects and the haunting imagery for which del Toro has become world-renowned, Cronos is a dark, visually rich, and emotionally captivating fantasy. DIRECTOR-APPROVED 4K UHD + BLU-RAY SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 4K digital restoration, supervised and approved by director Guillermo del Toro, with 2.0 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack One 4K UHD disc of the film presented in Dolby Vision HDR and one Blu-ray with the film and special features Optional original Spanish-language voice-over introduction Two audio commentaries, one featuring del Toro, the other producers Arthur H. In a post-Chernobyl world where culture has been lost, William Shakespeare Jr. V (played by theater director Peter Sellars) attempts to reconstruct his ancestor’s play, abetted by a cast that includes Molly Ringwald, Burgess Meredith, and Godard himself as a crazed avant savant. Through a dense layering of sounds, images, and ideas about everything from language to the economics of filmmaking to the very meaning of art in a ruined world, Godard fashions a puckish and profound metacinematic riddle to be endlessly analyzed, argued over, and savored. SPECIAL EDITION FEATURES New 2K digital restoration, with 2.0 surround DTS-HD Master Audio soundtrack Audio recording of the 1987 Cannes Film Festival press conference, featuring director Jean-Luc Godard New interviews with Richard Brody, author of Everything Is Cinema: The Working Life of Jean-Luc Godard; actor Molly Ringwald; and actor and coscreenwriter Peter Sellars English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing PLUS: An essay by Brody BLU-RAY EDITIONSRP: $39.95PREBOOK: 1/7/25STREET: 2/11/25CAT. Happily independent bookstore manager Izzy (a luminous Amy Irving) isn’t looking for love, but she’s forced to reevaluate her desires when she catches the eye of two very different men: a self-centered novelist (Jeroen Krabbé) and the mild-mannered Lower East Side pickle seller (Peter Riegert) with whom her old-fashioned bubbie (scene-stealing Yiddish-theater star Reizl Bozyk) sets her up. A love letter to 1980s Manhattan shot in beautifully burnished, autumnal tones, Crossing Delancey gracefully captures the magic of a city where disparate cultures, generations, and traditions both clash and connect. Swinging between dope-fueled disconnection and edgy paranoia, Matt Dillon plays the leader of a ragtag crew (also featuring Kelly Lynch, Heather Graham, and James Le Gros) that robs pharmacies for pills, coasting across the 1970s Pacific Northwest while trying to outrun sobriety and fate. With a brilliant supporting turn from counterculture high priest William S. Burroughs and a lyrical feeling for the streetscapes of Van Sant’s hometown of Portland, Oregon, Drugstore Cowboy cemented the director’s status as a preeminent poet of outsiderhood. On the run from his vengeful boss, a ruthless gangster (James Fox) hides out in the Notting Hill home of a reclusive rock star (Mick Jagger) and his companions (Anita Pallenberg and Michele Breton), who open the doors of his perception as the lines between reality and fantasy, male and female, persona and self, dissolve in a hallucinogenic haze. Iiiiit's Shop Time! HDD's 4K UHD & Blu-ray Shopping Guide, Week of Nov. 19, 2024This week is a WHOPPER, and I am not talking about that large hamburger either. If you got any money left over for Black Friday and Cyber Monday, more power to you. There are FIVE (5) new releases on 4K and a bunch of everything else to break the bank for the rest of the year! Welcome to Volume 5 Episode 25 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc the week of November 17th - November 23rd, as well as a look at announcements from last week. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases- UK Import Monday has one for sure title, Seven Samurai from BFI. What does this one offer that Criterion's does not? SWAG! It is hard to say if disc 2, the included Blu-ray is region locked. Did I mention it has SWAG, something Criterion tends to shy away from, or for that matter, slipcovers or cases. The second title has been in and out of stock so we will not list it here (see below in the first title in the catalog releases section). What a tough week to crack. Which title do we lead in with? There are five choice to ponder for that honor. I guess let's get started with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice from Warner Bros. This one is available as a Standard Release and as a Limited Edition SteelBook. The other choice our my lead-in would have been for Godzilla: Minus One. This one took Netflix by storm and we have already seen a magnificent release from Japan, and a very similar US release by the Toho company itself. Moving on to a mass market distribution of the film, we get a Standard Edition and a Limited Edition SteelBook. The SteelBook sold out pretty fast, but we would expect more added and to see it at regular merchants like Walmart. Although this one is considered Toho, outlets that distribute SDS/Warner Bros. discs are the ones that are selling this too. The UPC sequence resembles a Universal release. Sticking with the fantasy theme, dragons don't dominate the new release category quite enough. This week though it's time for House of the Dragon: The Complete Second Season. In what seems like a big echo, this one is also available as a Standard Edition and as a Limited Edition SteelBook. This one too, although listed as HBO/Max, is also distributed by SDS/Warner Bros. What week would not have another Standard Edition and an (Amazon Exclusive) SteelBook release? Yup, this time LionsGate has The Killer's Game. The fifth new release this week is Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In from Well Go USA. Catalog releases this week, got a few good ones there as well. Let's circle back around to Warner Bros. The Mel Brooks comedy Blazing Saddles dons a Standard Edition release and a SteelBook as well. The UK of course gets their swaggy edition while the US does not. That cover art --- a saddle, on fire, blazing, saddle, how original! And next, MGM (via Warner Bros.) releases The Terminator, with the same two options we have seen a lot of, a Standard Edition and a SteelBook Edition. Continuing the trend, Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest gets a Standard Edition and a SteelBook Edition, while the UK gets a Swaggy Deluxe Edition. The latter has been in and out of stock, so keep trying. Before moving to the next studio, Walmart has Exclusive SteelBooks of previously released titles, Dune: Part Two and Elvis. Maybe you prefer these covers? Sony Pictures is next with Little Women (1994). When Columbia Classics Five came out last month, no doubt people were asking for the 1994 version of the film with the same name. Well-known director Frank Capra gets a 2-film collection this week from Sony as well, Frank Capra At Columbia Collection. Criterion Collection this week has the drama/musical Funny Girl, and it's currently half price at Amazon thanks to the B&N sale going on, which they are duly matching. Not meaning to sound simple here, but Arrow Video has the Sam Raimi thriller A Simple Plan, starring Bill Paxton, Bridget Fonda and Billy Bob Thornton. Click our link, click buy it now, wait for delivery. Such a SIMPLE Plan! Har Har. New to 4K disc Formula One action from Shout! Factory with Rush. Having recently been done by Sony, two double-dips from Shout! Factory that might get your attention here. The Dark Crystal comes as a new Walmart Exclusive SteelBook, as well as a Limited Collector's Set. Pressing repeat here, but with the title Labyrinth, a Walmart Exclusive SteelBook, as well as a Limited Collector's Set. Fans of either of those two films, how can you NOT double-dip? Previously delayed and on track for this week, Kino Lorber has a trio of titles and all three feature Clint Eastwood. The Eiger Sanction, Play Misty for Me and Two Mules For Sister Sara is where it's at. Closing out domestic releases, Paramount offers (three comedy films) Zaz: The Collection, delayed from a couple of weeks ago, as well as Star Trek: The Motion Picture with a classic poster art SteelBook. Turbine Medien Group Germany has a little bit of imported Texas Chainsaw action on Wednesday, titles include: Leatherface (2017) - Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook Cover B Leatherface (2017) - Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook Cover A The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook Cover B The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook Cover A with Chainsaw Prop The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 - Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook Cover E The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook Cover A The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 - Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook Cover D The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 - Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook Cover C The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 - Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook Cover B The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 - Turbine 4K UHD Mediabook Cover A Blu-ray releases- Blu-ray counterparts of the above 4K releases include (region B release) Seven Samurai, domestic titles Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Godzilla: Minus One, House of the Dragon: The Complete Second Season, The Killer's Game, Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, Funny Girl and A Simple Plan. Dennis Quaid drama Reagan comes to us from LionsGate. Severin Films' general release of All The Haunts Be Ours: A Compendium Of Folk Horror Volume 2 arrives on disc this week. 2024 horror/thriller Speak No Evil releases from Universal. Will there be a UK 4K in the near future? With Blumhouse, it's likely. Anime highlights include The Dreaming Boy is a Realist - Complete Collection and Reincarnated as a Sword - Limited Edition SteelBook. Fraggle Rock: Back To The Rock - Season One comes to us via Sony. The mega-set from Criterion, CC40 is also available this week. Special Interest Ken Burns docoumentary Leonardo da Vinci comes to us via PBS. Notable announcements from last week: Disney has announced that the 1988 fantasy film Willow will be coming to 4K on December 10th. There is a SteelBook edition for sure, and a standard release that may or may not be a US release. Stay tuned. Spotted on Gruv, Warner Bros. will be releasing Seven to 4K disc on January 7th. The What's In the Box? and other UK editions were canceled and different editions will no doubt be coming soon, along with the usual swag-filled release that they often get. Lots more title reveals from boutique labels have landed, including Vinegar Syndrome and Severin Films' Black Friday plans. 4K Release Calendar 2K/BD Release Calendar Which titles are you buying this week? Troma Is Cleaning Up Your Collection with Toxic Crusaders: The Series on Blu-ray December 10th!Kids of the 80s rejoice! Troma is bringing the complete Toxic Crusaders: The Series to Blu-ray in all its animated glory! You can recreate your memories of seeing the animated Toxie on television and then convincing your mom to rent you to the live-action movie with this two-disc collection offering the full series with plenty of bonus features to go around. What's next, a Blu-ray of the Rambo cartoon complete series? The RoboCop cartoon complete series on Blu-ray? I know a lot of people are lamenting a return to '80s culture, but for nostalgia bums, this might be a good thing when something like Troma's Toxic Crusaders: The Series comes to Blu-ray! Newly restored and remastered, this classic slice of '80s cheese will adorn many a Troma fan's collections on December 10th. If all you 40-something-year-olds have been really good this year, maybe Santa will bring it for you for Christmas! Toxic Crusaders: The Series Toxie uses his new powers to clean up the evil and greedy forces that are willing to poison the environment. Dr. Killemoff wants to destroy the Earth with toxic chemicals and radioactive waste, so it resembles his polluted planet Smogula. Toxie isn’t alone in his battle against Dr. Killemoff. Other hideously deformed creatures with superhuman size and strength join up with Toxie to form the Toxic Crusaders. Nozone flew through a hole in the ozone layer and now has powerful sneezes. Major Disaster emerged from a radioactive swamp with the ability to control plants. Headbanger has the heads of the mad scientist Dr. Bender and a singing telegram boy named Fender from an atom smasher accident. Junkyard is a man-dog that merged when lightning hit their toxic sludge covered shelter. Toxie also has the help of his girlfriend Yvonne, who is practically blind without her glasses. Together, the Toxic Crusaders battle against Dr. Killemoff and his evil cohorts to preserve Tromaville. Toxic Crusaders: The Series was made for the whole family. The action appealed to preteens with its environmental message. There are jokes that will make the adults in the room laugh. This is a show for the family that wants to share the Troma experience together. Toxie was voiced by Rodger Bumpass, who is currently voicing the character of SquidwardTentacles on SpongeBob SquarePants. Bumpass did double duty by voicing Dr. Killemoff. Other notable voices in the series belong to Paul Eiding (Ben 10), Ed Gilbert (Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills), Hal Rayle (SWAT Kats: The Radical Squad), John Mariano (The Sewer Czar on The Tick), Kath Soucie (Lola Bunny in Space Jam), Susan Silo (Biker Mice From Mars), and Gregg Berger (Cornfed Pig on Duckman). Two major guest voices were Michael J. Pollard (Bonnie and Clyde) and Chuck McCann (Far Out Space Nuts and Pac-Man). The first episode was written by Chuck Lorre, who went on to create Two and a Half Men, The Big Bang Theory and HBO’s Bookie. Troma’s co-founders, Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, also co-wrote a few scripts too. The bonus features include a new introduction from Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman, commercials for Toxic Crusaders toys, TV spots, lost archival footage, and a documentary on the video game. Set Off On The 4K Adventure Of A Lifetime with Ron Howard's 'Willow' on 4K UHD SteelBook December 10thJust in time for the holidays, we can enjoy Ron Howard and George Lucas' family-friendly fantasy adventure film Willow finally arrives on 4K UHD Blu-ray with deluxe SteelBook packaging. The George Lucas / Ron Howard team-up Willow might have been something of a box office misfire at release, but the film has grown into a fan-favorite fantasy adventure classic. Now we can enjoy the exploits of Warwick Davis' Willow and his pal Madmartigan and the beautiful Sorsha in full 2160p with HDR. The press release wasn't specific about HDR grade, remember Disney is punching Dolby Vision onto their 4K discs on a case-by-case basis - so this one might not have made the cut. We'll see if any clarification comes out on that. But we can at least expect HDR10 on the BD66 disc with DTS-HD MA 5.1 audio. We also don't have a breakdown of extra features yet, but it's a safe bet those will be on the included Blu-ray. Hopefully, if this sells well, maybe we'll get the abandoned series' first season on disc too. Born on the 12th of November - HDD's 4K UHD & Blu-ray Shopping GuideThis week is dedicated to mostly catalog releases. This includes both the 4K and Blu-ray categories. There are still some nice releases so don't tuck that wallet away quite yet. Welcome to Volume 5 Episode 24 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc the week of November 10th - November 16th, as well as a look at announcements from last week. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases- No UK titles to import Monday, and it's catalog titles on Tuesday and that's fine, we need to expand our catalog of 4K upgrades. Shout! Factory kicks it off with one new to the format release, and a once retailer exclusive, now a general release title. New to 4K disc, we can get the war drama Born on the Fourth of July with Tom Cruise. As far as the retailer exclusive becoming a general release, that title would be The Last Unicorn, available as a SteelBook. Arrow Video offers the 2007 sci-fi film, The Invasion, and Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, a comedy horror. Criterion Collection has got a pair of releases this week. Not the successful remake starring Al Pacino, but rather the one that started it all, Scarface (1932). And the 1954 Japanese classic, Seven Samurai. Very hard to believe it has been 50 years, but this week you can get Steven Spielberg's The Sugarland Express. Before we get into the double-dips, let's mention Kino Lorber's offerings this week (maybe). Delayed from a previous date and on track for this week, Gregory Peck and Sophia Loren mystery Arabesque. And the horror film Circus of Horrors. *Note: Both these films are presented in 4K, but with an SDR grading. Paramount is lining up the double-dips this week with three titles; a reprint of the SteelBook for Gladiator, plus Planes, Trains and Automobiles, but this time as a SteelBook, and The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, this time as a standard packaging edition. Import Friday (via Amazon US) has Eyes Without A Face aka Les Yeux Sans Visage from Umbrella Entertainment. Next week, by volume will be the biggest week for 4K this month. No doubt because the week after has Black Friday and the Thanksgiving holiday so you will likely have your spending habits elsewhere. Blu-ray releases- Blu-ray counterparts of the above 4K releases include The Invasion, Scarface (1932) and Circus of Horrors. Before we get to the remainder of the Blu-ray slate, let's remind you that Second Sight's (LIKELY Region B locked) Limited Edition release of The Blair Witch Project comes out on Monday. Also available is the standard edition. Anime highlights this week include Afro Samurai - The Complete Series + Resurrection Movie SteelBook, The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent - Season 2, Space Dandy: The Complete Series and Tokyo Revengers: The Complete First Season. Paramount/CBS animated TV on disc, look for Star Trek: Prodigy: Season 2 and Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Season One. Warner Archive this week has The Complete Thin Man Collection (1934-47). Shout! Factory has more Golden harvest action with Golden Harvest Vol. 1: Supernatural Shockers. Australian Import Friday (via Amazon US) this week includes the following: Little Dixie - Australian Import The Adventures of Merlin: The Complete Series - Australian Import Psych: The Movie Collection Psych: The Movie / Pysch 2: Lassie Come Home / Pysch 3: This Is Gus - Australian Import Ozploitation Rarities Volume 2 Standard Edition (Australian Import) Full Moon Fright Box Vol 1: Standard Edition (1991, 1993, 1992, 2010) (Australian Import) TimeCrimes (Australian Import) Notable announcements from last week: Pricing Alert: Prices on those four upcoming 4K Disney+ TV SteelBooks have come down this past week. At launch they were listed at over $75. Now they're close to $50. Shout! Factory has revealed their January slate of titles. Just like Criterion, the volume of titles is less than usual, again, giving our wallets time to recharge post-Christmas. Titles include John Carpenter's Vampires 4K, The Last Voyage of the Demeter 4K, Sanctum 4K and Shaw Brothers Classics: Volume Five on Blu-ray. I will take one of each please. Other studios have been revealing a lot of onesie twosie titles throughout the week and we have updated our release calendar to reflect them. 4K Release Calendar 2K/BD Release Calendar Which titles are you buying this week?
