Sony Sets Specs, Adds Exclusives to 'Made of Honor' Blu-ray[teaser]Sony Pictures has announced final specs for 'Made of Honor,' which will come to Blu-ray this September with a host of exclusive content.[/teaser] As previously reported, Sony issued a September 16 Blu-ray debut (day-and-date with the standard DVD) for the Patrick Dempsey romantic comedy, but stopped short of confirming any specs. The final details are now in, with the film receiving the BD-50 dual-layer treatment, with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround audio. Extras shared between the Blu-ray and DVD include only a single feature, an audio commentary with director Paul Weiland. Exclusive to the Blu-ray will be an additional two featurettes ("Save the Date: The Making of Made of Honor," "Three Weddings and a Skyline") and multiple deleted scenes. As previously announced, suggested retail price for the Blu-ray has been set at $38.95. Trio of IMAX Titles Bound for Blu-ray[teaser]Image Entertainment has announced that a trio of new titles, including 'Dolphins,' , Coral Reef Adventure,' and 'The Living Sea' will anchor its rescheduled October wave of Blu-ray IMAX releases.[/teaser] Originally schedule for late 2007, Image bumped 'Dolphins' and 'The Living Sea' from its schedule. Both titles have now received a new date of November 11, where they will be joined by another IMAX favorite making it's next-gen debut, 'Coral Reef Adventure.' Tech specs include 1080p video (recomposed at 1.78:1) and English DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround. At press time, there were no announced extras. Takashi Miike's 'Django' Headed to Blu-ray[teaser]First Look Studios has announced plans to bring Takashi Miike's acclaimed 'Sukiyaki Western: Django' to Blu-ray this November.[/teaser] Part Western, part fantasy, part Kurosawa homage, 'Sukiyaki Western: Django' was a sensation in its native Japan and enjoyed an instant cult audience Stateside. Previously released on high-def as an overseas release only, First Look will bow the 'Django' on Blu-ray domestically on November 11 (day-and-date with the standard DVD). Universal Brings 'Thing,' 'Dead' Series to Blu-ray this Halloween[teaser]Universal has announced plans to bring three of its top catalog horror hits to Blu-ray this September with all-new U-Control features, both as stand-alone releases and a three-title 'Halloween Starter Pack.'[/teaser] Making their Blu-ray debut on September 30 will be John Carpenter's cult classic 'The Thing,' George A. Romero's 'Land of the Dead,' and the 2004 remake of 'Dawn of the Dead.' (All three titles were previously released on HD DVD.) Tech specs include 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround soundtracks. Extras confirmed so far include filmmaker audio commentaries on all three titles, and multiple making-of featurettes on 'Land of the Dead.' More details are expected in the coming days, which should see all of the bonus features found on the previous HD DVD versions carried over to their respective Blu-rays. Exclusive to Blu on all three titles are new U-Control picture-in-picture tracks (Profile 1.1 required), plus U-Control tutorials. 'The Thing' will also be BD-Live-enabled (Profile 2.0 required), though exact content specs remain TBA. Note that all three titles will be made available individually for $34.95 each, and as part of a three-movie 'Halloween Starter Pack,' though its MSRP remains unconfirmed at press time. Stay tuned. Paramount Planning September Blu-ray Landing for 'Iron Man'?[teaser]Get ready to suit up, 'Iron Man' fans: the trades are saying that Paramount is planning to bring the comic book blockbuster to Blu-ray in late September.[/teaser] That's according to Home Media Magazine, which is reporting that the $310 million box office smash (the biggest hit of the year so far) will touchdown on Blu-ray September 30, day-and-date with the standard DVD. No further specs or supplement details are known thus far, but given 'Iron Man's big-ticket action sequences and CGI effects, it seems poised to be one of the season's biggest next-gen hits. At press time, official word from a Paramount spokesperson is that "...the studio has not made any official announcements regarding a release date for Iron-Man on Blu-ray," though we're told the studio's official release plans are due shortly. Lionsgate Sets 'Belly,' 'The Doors' Blu-ray Specs[teaser]Lionsgate has unveiled final specs for its August wave of Blu-ray catalog releases, bringing 'The Doors' and 'Belly' to high-def with DTS-MA 7.1 audio and hours of bonus materials.[/teaser] As originally announced last month, Lionsgate will bring both Oliver Stone's controversial 'The Doors' and the urban crime thriller 'Belly' to Blu-ray on August 12, with each enjoying their first-ever next-gen release. The studio has now confirmed tech specs, with both receiving a BD-50 dual-layer presentation with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and a DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 7.1 Surround soundtrack. Sony Axes 'I Still Know' Blu-ray from 'Summer' Schedule[teaser]Sony no longer knows what you're doing on Blu-ray this summer after yanking the planned debut of the slasher sequel from its next-gen schedule.[/teaser] Originally announced for a July 22 Blu-ray bow, the Jennifer Love Hewitt scream-fest 'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer' was to join the original 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' in making its high-def debut. We've now received confirmation from Sony that while the original 'Summer' remains on track for release, 'I Still Know' has been given the hook, with no new date pending. The studio gave no word on the reasons behind the change and didn't say if or when a new date might be announced. As always, we'll keep you posted. Disney Unveils 'Nixon: Election Year Edition' Blu-ray Specs[teaser]Walt Disney Studios has announced specs for 'Nixon: Election Year Edition,' which will hit Blu-ray in a newly-extended version along with a never-before seen documentary.[/teaser] As previously announced, Disney will bring Oliver Stone's controversial epic to high-def for the first time on August 19, day-and-date with a new special edition DVD re-issue. Confirmed supplements are toplined by "Beyond Nixon," a never-before-seen documentary by Sean Stone (Oliver's son) featuring insights from author Gore Vidal and interviews with Washington insiders, including White House counsel to President Nixon, John Dean and notable political columnist and author, Robert Novak. Other extras include two separate audio commentaries from director and screenwriter Oliver Stone, deleted scenes (introduced by Stone), a "Charlie Rose Show" interview with Stone, and the film's original theatrical trailer.
