THE MEG Dated and Detailed for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray[teaser]Jason Statham takes on a Megalodon on home video this November. [/teaser] As previously reported, Warner Brothers says The Meg will be available on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray on November 13. A deep-sea submersible—part of an international undersea observation program—has been attacked by a massive creature and now lies disabled at the bottom of the deepest part of the Pacific Ocean…with its crew trapped inside. With time running out, former deep-sea rescue diver Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) is drawn out of self-imposed exile by a visionary Chinese oceanographer, Dr. Zhang (Winston Chao), against the wishes of his daughter, Suyin (Li Bingbing), who thinks she can rescue the crew on her own. But it will take their combined efforts to save the crew, and the ocean itself, from this seemingly unstoppable threat—a prehistoric 75-foot-long shark known as the Megalodon. Thought to be extinct, the Meg turns out to be very much alive…and on the hunt. Five years before, Jonas had encountered this same terrifying creature, but no one had believed him. Now, teamed with Suyin, Jonas must confront his fears and risk his own life to return to the ocean depths…bringing him face-to-face once more with the apex predator of all time. The 4K release will feature Dolby Vision HDR, a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, and supplements on both releases will include Chomp On This: The Making Of The Meg and Creating The Beast. The First Season of CASTLE ROCK Announced for Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray[teaser]The first season of the Hulu series from Stephen King and J.J. Abrams arrives on both formats early next year. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Warner Brothers says Castle Rock: The Complete First Season will be available on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray on January 8. From Stephen King (Mr. Mercedes, It, 11.22.63) and J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Westworld, 11.22.63), Castle Rock is a new psychological-horror series set in the Stephen King multiverse. Castle Rock, which first premiered on Hulu, is an original story that combines the mythological scale and intimate character storytelling of Stephen King's best loved works, while weaving an epic saga of darkness and light that's played out on a few square miles of Maine woodland. Castle Rock has been picked up for a second season on Hulu. The first season of Castle Rock follows Henry Deaver (André Holland, American Horror Story), a Death Row attorney who returns to Castle Rock, Maine, his hometown, after he receives an anonymous phone call from the infamous Shawshank State Penitentiary. The call is about a nameless young man (Bill Skarsgård, It) who is found locked in an underground cage that's located in a long-abandoned cell block beneath the prison. Upon his discovery, the mysterious young man, with a sinister and unnerving presence, whispers Henry's name. Curious about how and why someone left this boy imprisoned, Henry is drawn into the case and attempts to help him. But there are reasons why "The Kid" was imprisoned. And reasons why he should never be set free. Permeated with a sense of foreboding and dread, the haunting small town of Castle Rock is not willing to let Henry leave. Aside from now having to deal with the strange young man found in the prison, Henry is faced with the fact that his adoptive mother (Sissy Spacek, Carrie), who lives in Castle Rock with retired Sheriff Alan Pangborn (special guest star Scott Glenn), is struggling with the onset of dementia. Reluctantly, Henry stays to figure out just who "The Kid" is and how he wound up imprisoned under such appalling circumstances. In addition to Holland, Skarsgård and Spacek, the series also stars Melanie Lynskey (Two and a Half Men) as Molly Strand, Jane Levy (Suburgatory, Shameless) as Jackie Torrance and recurring guest star Terry O'Quinn (Lost) as Shawshank's Warden Dale Lacey. Specs have yet to be revealed, but supplements include: Blood on the Page (New Featurette) A Clockwork of Horror: Merging the styles of Stephen King & J.J. Abrams (New Featurette) Inside the Episode (for all 10 episodes) You can find the latest specs for Castle Rock: The Complete First Season linked from our Blu-ray and 4K Release Schedules, where it is indexed under January 8. Demo Discs: Essential DTS:X MoviesThere may be two competing formats for object-based audio, but thankfully they're on good terms. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X both offer incredible audio experiences for our favorite flicks. And, outside of a few sound bar applications, both formats are equally available on most modern AV Receivers and sound system. Action, Science Fiction, Horror, it doesn't matter what genre films are making terrific usage of dynamic object-based audio mixes that will push your sound system to the limit. [Teaser]With a growing number of Blu-ray discs and 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays available in both formats -- here's our Atmos list from yesterday -- we've got a few titles to recommend to help you grow your DTS:X collection:[/Teaser] The Fate of the Furious When you have a movie with Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham racing cars, blowing things up, outrunning a submarine, you'll be glad you have a top-tier DTS:X sound system. The mix hits the ground running with a street race in Cuba and doesn't let up a single moment with terrific imaging and spacing making it a terrific demo disc. Buy The Blu-ray Buy The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Crimson Peak When you need a movie full of creepy atmosphere, Crimson Peak delivers the gothic horror sights and sounds of a classic ghost story. From the beautiful images to the fantastic object-based effects courtesy of this DTS:X mix, this is a hell of a Blu-ray to keep you company when you need a little fright. Buy The Blu-ray Apollo 13 Apollo 13 has enjoyed a nice life on home video since the days of its theatrical release, but when the film came to 4K UHD it was given a terrific DTS:X sonic upgrade. The mix beautifully captures the everyday life of an astronaut all the way up through the incredible launch sequence to the dramatic end. The film has never looked or sounded better. Buy The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Jurassic Park 25th Anniversary Collection The fun of purchasing favorite films in a new format is the feeling of getting to experience the film all over again. When Jurassic Park hit 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Universal saw fit to give each film in the series a beautiful, sonically immersive DTS:X audio track. When you hear that T-Rex roar for the first time against the pitter patter of raindrops, you'll be glad you made the upgrade in your home equipment. Buy The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom What Jurassic Park experience is complete without the latest entry? The movie may not be the best entry in the series, but it is a heck of a lot of fun. And that DTS:X audio mix? It rattles the speakers and blows your hair back with every dino roar followed by the terrified scream of a hapless human getting chomped on. Buy The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Buy The Blu-ray Atomic Blonde A great soundtrack plus kickass action sequences, Atomic Blonde will give your DTS:X sound system a true and hearty workout. It's a fun flick made better by the terrific action-packed audio track. As Charlize Theron dispenses the fisticuffs, you'll be glad to have the volume cranked as each hit is met with a nice shudder and thump that puts you in the thick of the action. Buy The Blu-ray Buy The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Dreamgirls Director's Extended Edition When you have a dramatic musical event movie that hinges on sonic fidelity like Dreamgirls, you're going to be glad to have a dynamic DTS:X audio track. While it would have been great if this film had been given a 4K Ultra HD release, this Blu-ray is terrific and the songs have never sounded better. Buy The Blu-ray Phantom Thread While action, adventure, and science fiction films tend to stretch your sound system's muscle, the dramatic DTS:X mix for Phantom Thread is no slouch. The mix provides some tense atmosphere to the cavernous locations while localizing individual pinpricks as seamstresses busily stitch away. You're sure to enjoy the extra sizzle of some frying mushrooms as this potboiler thriller heats up. Buy The Blu-ray Buy The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Gladiator Ridley Scott's tribute to sword and sandal pictures has always enjoyed a dramatic and impressive audio presence and this new 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release is no slouch. While there may not be much of an overhead activity, the new mix is still incredibly aggressive and makes you feel like you're right there in the middle of the action. Buy The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Now that object-based audio has come to the home, the number of great new movies and old favorites featuring dynamic audio tracks that blow your hair back and rattle your seats is only going to increase. These may be some of our favorite DTS:X releases but this list is far from complete. What would you add to your list and what are your go-to DTS:X demos? Let us know in the comments below!Posted Wed Oct 3, 2018 at 06:55 AM PDT by: -
