First Teaser for Disney's Live Action ALADDIN is a Diamond in the Rough[teaser]The genie will be let out of the bottle again in May.[/teaser] Disney has released the first teaser for its new live action version of Aladdin. The movie is an adaptation of the 1992 animated film of the same name, and is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2019. Aladdin is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future. Directed by Guy Ritchie, who brings his singular flair for fast-paced, visceral action to the fictitious port city of Agrabah, the film is written by John August and Ritchie based on Disney’s Aladdin. The Villains Escape in Thrilling New GLASS Trailer[teaser]Mr. Glass, David Dunn, and The Beast will return to theaters in January.[/teaser] Universal has released a new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's Glass. The film serves as a sequel to the director's previous films Unbreakable and Split, and is set to premiere on January 18, 2019. From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast. Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men. AT&T and WarnerMedia Prep New Streaming Service[teaser]The upcoming platform is set to offer content from HBO, Warner Bros., and Turner.[/teaser] According to a report by CNN Business, AT&T's WarnerMedia division is prepping a new direct to consumer streaming service. The currently untitled platform joins an increasingly crowded market of new and upcoming digital media offerings, including a rival service in the works from Disney. "Today we announced plans to launch a new direct-to-consumer streaming service in the fourth quarter of 2019," said WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey in a statement released to the press. "This is another benefit of the AT&T/Time Warner merger, and we are committed to launching a compelling and competitive product that will serve as a complement to our existing businesses and help us to expand our reach by offering a new choice for entertainment with the WarnerMedia collection of films, television series, libraries, documentaries and animation loved by consumers around the world. We expect to create such a compelling product that it will help distributors increase consumer penetration of their current packages and help us successfully reach more customers." Full details on the upcoming service have not been announced yet, but the platform is expected to offer content from WarnerMedia's various entertainment assets, including HBO, Warner Bros., and Turner. VIZIO Expands Google Assistant Voice Control Support for SmartCast TVs[teaser]New voice control functions are coming to the SmartCast TV platform.[/teaser] VIZIO has announced plans to bring new Google Assistant voice control options to its SmartCast TV lineup. The expanded functions are set to launch on supported displays in the coming weeks. "VIZIO is a voice control leader in the smart TV industry, and with the demand for hands-free functionalities continuing to rise, VIZIO remains dedicated to delivering added value by integrating voice features for an enhanced overall user experience," said Bill Baxter, Chief Technology Officer, VIZIO. "With the introduction of expanded Google Assistant actions, we're excited to give VIZIO customers the ability to further integrate their SmartCast TVs into their connected smart home ecosystems." As part of the update, SmartCast TV owners with a Google Home or other Google Assistant-enabled device will be able to control their display's volume, input selection, and playback functions like pause, resume, stop, fast-forward, and rewind via hands-free spoken commands. Users will simply need to say, "Hey Google" followed by the desired function. In addition to voice support for Google Assistant devices, the SmartCast TV platform also offers integrated access to popular apps like Netflix, Prime Video, Vudu, iHeartRadio, Crackle, and Xumo directly through the TV screen using the included remote. Meanwhile, customers can also download the free SmartCast Mobile app to use their smartphone as a touchscreen remote, and Google Chromecast built-in allows users to cast thousands of Chromecast-enabled apps to the display from their supported mobile device. Google Announces Pixel 3 Smartphone, Home Hub Smart Screen, and Pixel Slate Tablet[teaser]Several new mobile and smart home devices have been detailed.[/teaser] Google has revealed its latest smartphone lineup. The new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3XL offer several advanced display, camera, and AI features. In addition, the company has also announced the new Google Home Hub smart screen and the Pixel Slate tablet. The Pixel 3 features a 5.5" FHD+ OLED display with 443ppi, an 18:9 aspect ratio, Corning Gorilla Glass 5, and UHDA Certified HDR support. Meanwhile, the Pixel 3XL steps things up with a larger 6.3" QHD+ OLED display with 523ppi, and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, both models are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 2.5GHz + 1.6GHz, 64Bit Octa-Core processor and 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM running Android 9 with Google Assistant. A 12.2MP dual-pixel rear camera and dual 8MP wide-angle and normal FoV cameras are integrated as well. In addition, the smartphones use AI and other advanced technologies to offer enhanced camera features, including a Top Shot option to take alternate shots and recommend the best one; a Super Res Zoom mode to maintain sharp detail when zooming in on images; Night Sight for high quality low light photography without a flash; Motion Auto Focus for video recordings; and more. Likewise, new Google Assistant features are being implemented as well, including a Screen Call feature to weed out spam and telemarketers. Meanwhile, outside of smartphones, Google has also revealed its new Home Hub. The smart screen device features a 7-inch LCD touch display with rounded corners and a fabric textured stand available in four colors. Google Assistant functionality is integrated as well along with far-field microphones, offering hands-free voice control for a variety of functions and tasks, including searches, YouTube, Google Photos, calendar, music, recipes, maps, and more. Likewise, the unit includes an Ambient EQ light sensor to automatically adjust screen brightness to match the lighting in a user's room. The Google Home Hub is now available for pre-order from the Google Store for $149. The device will launch in retailers like Best Buy on October 22. Finally, Google has detailed its new Pixel Slate as well. The tablet is powered by the Chrome OS and offers mobile functionality and desktop-style features. The device features a 12.3” LCD Molecular Touchscreen Display with a resolution of 3000x2000, 293 ppi, and 400 nits of brightness. Likewise, the panel includes support for the Google Pixelbook Pen. Under the hood, models will be available with 8th Gen Intel Core m3, i5 or i7 processor, or Intel Celeron processors, along with 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB RAM options. 8MP rear and front cameras are integrated as well, and the unit includes dual front-firing speakers.
