Best Buy is Extending the Return Window for Nearly Everything - Home Theater Return Window Gets Halved[teaser]It's a boost for most products, but a decrease for home theater and appliances. [/teaser] The newest development at Best Buy isn't a new product or a financing scheme or even a new type of warranty they can sell you on - this one is good for most consumers no matter how you look at it, and it's going to affect everyone that buys from the company. Best Buy is dropping the 14-day return policy that's currently in place and subbing in a 30-day price match and return policy. This puts Best Buy in line with Amazon, which offers the same amount of time to bring products back for a refund. Of course, it's not all good news. Best Buy previously had a 60-day policy for home theater gear and appliances, but that's going to be changing to 30 as well. Source:EngadgetPosted Thu Mar 1, 2012 at 11:00 AM PST by: -

Dragon Voice Control Coming to Panasonic TVs[teaser]The new platform makes use of natural voice commands and focuses on search capabilities. [/teaser] If you've ever messed around with voice recognition software for dictating messages or transcribing notes, you're probably familiar with Dragon. The company has a long history of making impressive voice recognition software and now that same convenience is coming to TVs. Using Dragon TV is simple - just tell it what you want. Sample phrases from the press release include very natural sounding commands and questions like "What’s on Bravo at 9 p.m. tonight?" and "Find comedies with Vince Vaughn." Doesn't get much easier than that. Panasonic is the first company to announce adoption of this new platform. "TVs have become the epicenter of the digital living room, with what seems to be unlimited entertainment and media content," says Hiroyuki Iwaki, head of TV product planning at Panasonic. "But that content is only as powerful as the experience and the ability for consumers to access it. By integrating Nuance’s voice technology, Panasonic can empower consumers to enjoy TV watching with Voice Guidance technology in a more universal way." U.S. Based Acorn Media Now Owns Majority Share in Agatha Christie Estate[teaser]The independent media company now controls all of Christie's works, characters, and films - the whole shebang. [/teaser] For the first time ever, an American company has controlling interest in the Agatha Christie estate. Acorn Media, a distributor of British television, has just made a deal with the Christie estate that give it a 64% stake in the works of the best-selling novelist. This gives the company rights to not only the 80 novels, 19 plays, and 40 films that Christie is one way or another responsible for, but it allows the company control over the characters as well. This is an incredibly significant deal, especially considering the fact that Christie's books have sold over two billion copies. "This is a momentous occasion for Acorn Media and a gratifying one for me personally," says Acorn Chairman Peter Edwards. "While we are keenly aware of the financial and strategic worth of this transaction for Acorn Media, we are also grateful to partner with the Agatha Christie family in the promoting and protecting of their family legacy." HBO Go Comes to the Xbox 360 on April 1st[teaser]No need to change the channel to enjoy HBO content on demand - you'll be able to watch it right on your Xbox. [/teaser] April 1st just seems like a bad day to launch anything, especially if it's something of great interest to the internet, since companies, websites and bloggers all take it upon themselves to be the most hilarious, but hey, you try to explain this stuff to Microsoft! Still, there are going to be some folks out there that will be very happy to see a legitimate new addition to the Xbox 360 in just a few weeks. The 1st of April marks the availability of the HBO Go app on the Xbox 360 as confirmed by HBO president Eric Kessler. One thing that needs to be addressed before that launch date is whether HBO Go for the Xbox will get the same treatment as it did for Samsung TVs. More specifically, we have yet to find out whether Comcast and Time Warner will end up blocking access to the app for their subscribers. Source:JoystiqPosted Wed Feb 29, 2012 at 11:00 AM PST by: -

Atlantic Announces a New Down-Firing Version of the SB-900 Subwoofer[teaser]The new sub is designed for maximum placement flexibility. [/teaser] The SB-900 is one of Atlantic's most popular subwoofers, but it's not the kind of sub that works for everyone or, more to the point, not the kind of sub that works for every room. Atlantic knows this, and has created a new down-firing version for those that want to place their sub in a less traditional location. Like the original SB-900, the 900DF uses an 8" woofer to give you a bass response as low as 32Hz, while distortion detection technology helps to limit distorted audio . The sub is powered by a 125 watt amp and has a peak output of 102 dB SPL. You can pick up the SB-900DF at the same $349 price as the SB-900.
