Villains Grodd and Atrocitus get their debut.
In honor of this weekend's 'Mortal Kombat X' Pro League Finals, developer NetherRealm Studios released the first gameplay footage from the recently announced sequel to 'Injustice: Gods Among Us,' filled with sneak peeks at some of the new characters, their Super Moves, and some Stage Transitions.
Two new villains that will be joining the roster of 'Injustice 2' are shown off in the gameplay trailer. Atrocitus, the main face of the Red Lantern Corps, is shown taking on Superman and other newcomer Supergirl with rage-fueled ring projections and charming Red Lantern blood vomit. Atrocitus also seems to be joined at points by Dex-Starr, the character that answers the question, "What if a normal Earth housecat had enough rage in his heart to attract a Red Lantern ring?"
Gorilla Grodd shows up in the gameplay footage as well, demonstrating some mind control-based powers in bouts against Aquaman and Atrocitus. A third brief cameo shows undersea villain Black Manta taking on Aquaman, but because he is only seen in the context of a cutscene, there's a good chance that he's only a part of an Atlantus Stage Transition instead of a member of the game's roster.
The action is fast-paced and never seen for more than a few seconds before it cuts away, but quick eyes should come away from the 'Injustice 2' gameplay trailer seeing a handful of brutal Super Moves and a few elements that weren't in the original fighting game, like the Batplane or Aquaman summoning phantom octopus tentacles to get his enemies off their feet.
