New looting and crafting also coming in the new expansions.
'Elite: Dangerous' continues to grow and be one of the most significant (and hardcore) experiences available in gaming. (See why here.) Now, developer Frontier Developments has a new phase in mind, a phase which will see players come to the plants' surface. 'Elite Dangerous: Horizons' is being described as a "season of major gameplay expansions" through which players will be able to land on planets, explore using the new Surface Recon Vehicle (the SRV or 'Scarab'), and find signals, crashed ships, structures, fortresses minerals and so on without hitting a load screen.
The second major piece of 'Horizons' is expected in early 2016, and this will include new looting and crafting systems.
Other 'Horizons' features are still to be announced, but it is set to launch towards the end of 2015 for PC with a price of $59.99 (or $44.99 for existing 'Elite: Dangerous' players). 'Horizons' will also come to the Xbox One and Mac at some point. In addition to the loyalty discount, existing 'Elite: Dangerous' players get an exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship (which must be bought in-game.) New players will get the original base content included with 'Elite Dangerous: Horizons.'
Of course, as important as the 'Horizons' expansions are, the base game, 'Elite: Dangerous' will continue to get free updates, including the upcoming 'CQC' PVP content update.
