Giving new life to the definitive zombie title. An unfinished campaign map for 'Left 4 Dead' has been released to the public in a post on developer Turtle Rock Studios' forums by studio co-founder Chris Ashton.
Titled Dam It, the campaign remains unfinished, and certain bugs are present, but it is playable. Some of the level's known bugs are listed over on the web page linked to by Ashton, which includes the campaign's download link and instructions.
"Just finished putting the Dam campaign that we streamed a while back into a L4D addon," Ashton wrote. "It's gray box, and some code features are missing but it's playable from beginning to end. It also includes two standalone survival maps that never shipped."
The campaign ends with a scenario where players need to traverse a trench to unblock the path forward, with enemies constantly shambling toward the ravine from the cliffs above. Players are encouraged to split up here, with a conveniently placed guard tower perfect for some teammates to use as a sniper nest to keep enemies away from those making the trench run. An illustrated breakdown of the map is also included on the campaign's download page.
The Dam It campaign might not be polished to the level players are used to, but it is special to receive new content from the developers themselves for an 8-year-old game.
