Beware the pod people in high-def! 'The Invasion' is headed to Blu-ray and HD DVD this January with a host of bonus features.
The fourth incarnation of the classic 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers,' the Nicole Kidman-Daniel Craig starrer endured a much-publicized series of production problems (including extensive reshoots and a series of release date delays), before finally hitting theaters this past August to poor reviews and bad box office. Barely eking out a $30 million gross, Warner is clearly hoping the the big-budget actioner will find a larger audience when it hits DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD combo disc on January 8, 2008.
All versions of the title will share the same supplements, including the "We've Been Snatched Before: Invasion in Media History" retrospective documentary, plus three additional making-of featurettes: "A New Story," "On the Set" and "Snatched."
Tech specs for the two next-gen versions are also identical, with each receiving a 1080p/VC-1 encode and audio options in Dolby TrueHD (48kHz/24-bit) and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround (both 640kbps).
Suggested retail for the HD DVD combo is $39.98, while the Blu-ray is a few bucks cheaper at $34.98.
