The video game heroine is heading back to the silver screen.
Warner Bros. has released the first official trailer for Tomb Raider. The new adaptation of the popular video game series comes from director Roar Uthaug and stars Academy Award-winning actress Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft.
From Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Tomb Raider is the story that will set a young and resolute Lara Croft on a path toward becoming a global hero. The film stars Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) in the lead role, under the direction of Roar Uthaug (The Wave), with Oscar-winner Graham King (The Departed) producing under his GK Films banner. The film's production begins on the heels of the 20th anniversary of the wildly popular videogame franchise from Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal.

The Tomb Raider video games were previously adapted for the big screen in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) from director Simon West and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003) from director Jan de Bont. The original films starred Angelina Jolie in the title role. This new reboot takes its inspiration from more recent entries in the video game series and comes from a screenplay written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet.
The new Tomb Raider is set to hit theaters on March 18, 2018.
