Sony has announced a street date bump for 'Starship Troopers' and its direct-to-video sequel 'Starship Troopers: Marauder,' as well as details on an exclusive box set release featuring all three installments in the sci-fi franchise.
Originally announced for release on Blu-ray July 29, both the original Paul Verhoeven cult classic and its second direct-to-video sequel will now hit high-def one week later on August 5 (day-and-date with the DVD versions).
The studio has also confirmed that it will release the 'Starship Troopers Trilogy' box set on the same day, which features both 'Troopers' and 'Marauder,' as well as the second direct-to-video film in the series, 'Starship Troopers: Hero of the Federation,' the latter of which will only be available in the box set.
The box set will feature each film available in its own stand-alone keepcase, and will include no additional bonus features versus the individual versions.
As previously announced, extras on the original 'Starship Troopers' include all of the bonus features found on the standard DVD release, including audio commentary with Verhoeven, a making-of documentary, alternate scenes, screen tests and additional behind-the-scenes footage.
'Marauder' will include two audio commentaries of its own with the filmmaking team, and two making-of featurettes.
Both 'Troopers' and 'Marauder' will also feature exclusive picture-in-picture Bonus View (aka Profile 1.1) enhanced features, which will include additional commentary, making-of footage, and graphic and text content.
There are no supplement details available yet for 'Hero of the Federation,' nor tech specs for any of the three trilogy titles. We'll keep you posted.
Sony has set a suggested retail price of $38.95 for 'Marauder,' $28.95 for 'Starship Troopers,' and $89.95 for the 'Starship Troopers Trilogy.'
You'll find the latest specs for all three titles linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where they're indexed under their new date of August 5.
