Universal has announced that the 1991 teen crime flick 'Mobsters' will hit HD DVD this January

A somewhat surprising high-def catalog choice, 'Mobsters' was dubbed "'Young Guns' meets 'The Untouchables'" by none-too-kind critics at the time of its original theatrical release, and has barely rated as a cult item on video in the years since.

Universal says it will bow the flick on HD DVD January 8, in a bare-bones edition that will feature no special features outside of the studio's standard "MyScenes" bookmark function.

Tech specs are at least a bit more impressive, with Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 tracks offered along with 1080p/VC-1 video.

Universal has set a $29.98 list price for the disc.

As always, you'll find disc details for 'Mobsters' linked from our HD DVD Release Schedule, where it is indexed under January 8, 2008 next to two other just-announced Universal library titles, 'The Pianist' and 'White Noise.'
