Microsoft Details Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 Tablets[teaser]The company has revealed two new 1080p tablets that offer many of the same features as a laptop. [/teaser] Microsoft has announced two new additions to its tablet lineup, the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2. Both devices feature 10.6-inch full HD 1080p ClearType displays, full-size USB 3.0 ports, and updated kickstands. The Surface 2 is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor and features a front-facing 3.5MP camera and a rear-facing 5MP camera. The tablet is rated for up to 10 hours of battery life and runs Windows RT 8.1 with Office Home & Student 2013 RT and Outlook RT pre-loaded. 32GB and 64GB models will be available, starting at $449. Aimed at offering a more versatile alternative to traditional laptops, the Surface Pro 2 features support for virtually all Windows software and combines power with portability. The device uses an Intel Core i5 processor, can output up to 3,840 x 2,160 resolution to an external display, and comes with a Pro Pen for making digital notes and sketches. 64GB and 128GB models with 4GB of RAM, and 256GB and 512GB models with 8GB of RAM will all be available, starting at $899. Both the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 will launch on October 22 in Microsoft retail stores and select third party retailers, and pre-orders will begin on September 24. It's the first comet to buzz the planet in 65 million years, and everyone seems to be celebrating its imminent arrival! LG Introduces Vu 3 Smartphone[teaser]A new 5.2-inch HD smartphone has been announced. [/teaser] As detailed in a Korean press release, LG has officially revealed the successor to its previously available 5-inch Optimus Vu 2 smartphone. The new Vu 3 features updated specs and a slightly larger 5.2-inch 1,280x960 IPS display with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The Android phone uses a Snapdragon 800 2.26 GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of ram, and runs Jelly Bean 4.2.2. A 2.1MP front camera and a 13MP rear camera are also included, along with a stylus and support for LTE-A radio. Updated Notebook software with new drawing tools, Knock On implementation that allows users to wake the phone by tapping on it, guest mode, and Pop & Plug earphones are featured as well. In addition, an optional transparent QuickView case is also available. The mobile device is expected to launch in Korea on September 27. A U.S. release date and pricing have not been detailed yet. 'A Hijacking' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]The acclaimed thriller from filmmaker Tobias Lindholm sets sail to Blu-ray in October. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Magnolia will be releasing 'A Hijacking' on Blu-ray on October 15. The cargo ship MV Rozen is heading for harbour when it is hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean. Amongst the men on board are the ship's cook Mikkel (Pilou Asbæk) and the engineer Jan (Roland Møller), who along with the rest of the seamen are taken hostage in a cynical game of life and death. With the demand for a ransom of millions of dollars a psychological drama unfolds between the CEO of the shipping company (Søren Malling) and the Somali pirates. HP Reveals New Lineup of Tablets[teaser]The company has detailed four new high-def tablets. [/teaser] Just in time for the holiday shopping season, HP has unveiled a quartet of Android powered tablets. The upcoming lineup includes the Slate 7 HD, the Slate 10 HD, the Slate 8 Pro, and the Slate 7 Extreme. The Slate 7 HD features a 7-inch 1,280 x 800 IPS display along with a dual core processor. The tablet is rated for nine hours of battery life and includes Beats Audio and optional 4G support through T-Mobile. The similar Slate 10 HD has the same specs but comes with a larger 10-inch screen. Marking HP's first foray into the 8-inch tablet market, the Slate 8 Pro features a 1,600 x 1,200 screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The tablet is powered by a Tegra 4 processor and includes an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. A microSD slot, a micro-HDMI output, and a micro-USB port are all included as well. Finally, the Slate 7 Extreme offers a step-up in power from HP's other 7-inch options. The device uses a Tegra 4 quad-core processor and features a 1,280 x 800 display. Unlike the company's other recently announced models, the tablet also comes with a stylus.
