Jacques Rivette's 'Out 1' Announced for Blu-ray[teaser]The rare French movie is coming to Blu-ray in November, and you can pre-order the film here. [/teaser]In an early announcement to retailers, Carlotta Films is preparing 'Out 1' for Blu-ray on November 24. Paris, April 13th 1970. Two theater groups each rehearse avant-garde adaptations of plays by Aeschylus. A young deaf-mute begs for change in cafés while playing the harmonica. A young woman seduces men in order to rob them. As a conspiracy develops, the protagonists stories start to intertwine... Jacques Rivette, co-founder of the French New Wave along with Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, Éric Rohmer and Claude Chabrol, has always been that group s most free-spirited and aesthetically radical member. This is very much on display in Out 1, his fourth feature film and magnum opus, in which a whimsical young man (Jean-Pierre Léaud) receives anonymous notes that put him on the trail of a mysterious group of people who might or might not be conspirators.Based on an utterly unique concept that includes the absence of a script and nods to Honoré de Balzac and Lewis Carroll, Out 1 has been practically impossible to see for more than forty years. Both the complete 8-part series, Out 1: noli me tangere (1971), and the shorter theatrical version, Out 1: Spectre (1974), are offered here in newly restored 2K presentations supervised by the films director of photography, Pierre-William Glenn (Day for Night). The colorful characters that Léaud encounters during his quest are played by Juliet Berto, Michael Lonsdale, Bernadette Lafont, Bulle Ogier, Françoise Fabian, Jean-François Stévenin and other New Wave icons, with special appearances by directors Éric Rohmer and Barbet Schroeder. The Blu-ray/DVD will feature 1080p video, a French 1.0 PCM soundtrack, and supplements will include: The Mysteries of Paris: Jacques Rivette's "Out 1" Revisited and a 120-Page Booklet. Suggested list price for the 6-Disc Blu-ray/7-Disc DVD is $99.95. You can find the latest specs for 'Out 1' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under November 24. Kaleidescape Unveils Strato 4K HDR Movie Player with Ultra HD Movie Downloads from Sony[teaser]The new premium movie player offers high quality 4K playback and HDR support. [/teaser] Kaleidescape has announced its newest collection of media players. The Encore line is spearheaded by the flagship Strato Movie Player -- the world's first 4K Ultra HD high dynamic range movie player for the home. "I've long argued that streaming offers immediacy and convenience, but the Internet can't deliver a reliable high-bitrate content stream, such as 4K, unless it is heavily compressed," said industry analyst Dan Rayburn, Principal Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. "Kaleidescape's model of downloading and playing back from a local hard drive is the only way to get Internet-delivered content to match a 4K disc experience. Many of the service providers touting 4K content are capping their streaming bitrates at 16 Mbps. So, naturally, Strato's local playback—with bitrates up to 100 Mbps—will deliver better picture and sound quality," he added. The Strato Movie Player allows customers to download Ultra HD movies from the company's movie store with playback quality that matches or surpasses that of commercial theaters. In addition, the player supports lossless multichannel audio, and HDR content on displays that can process open standard 10-bit HDMI 2.0a HDR. The device is available with or without an internal 6TB hard drive that can store up to 100 4K Ultra HD movies, 150 Blu-ray quality movies, or 900 DVD quality movies. The Kaleidescape Movie Store currently offers 11,000 movies and 1,500 television seasons, including over 100 Ultra HD titles. In addition, the company just announced a new deal to offer Sony films in Ultra HD. Sony titles will be priced at around $30 and buyers of the Strato Movie Player will receive five downloadable Sony movies. Kaleidescape users can also upgrade their previously purchased UltraViolet SD and HD Sony Pictures titles to the 4K Ultra HD format. Finally, HDR films will be added as they become available. Kaleidescape's Strato Movie Player will be available in Q1 2016 for a suggested retail price of $4,495 with an internal 6 TB hard drive, and $3,495 with no internal hard drive. Sean Baker's Critically-Acclaimed 'Tangerine' Blu-ray Bound[teaser]The winner of the Independent Camera Award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is headed for Blu-ray this November. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Magnolia is set to release 'Tangerine' on Blu-ray on November 10. It's Christmas Eve in Tinseltown and Sin-Dee (newcomer Kitana Kiki Rodriguez) is back on the block. Upon hearing that her pimp boyfriend (James Ransone, STARLET, "Generation Kill") hasn't been faithful during the 28 days she was locked up, the sex worker and her best friend, Alexandra (newcomer Mya Taylor), embark on a mission to get to the bottom of the scandalous rumor. Their rip-roaring odyssey leads them through various subcultures of Los Angeles, including an Armenian family dealing with their own repercussions of infidelity. Director Sean Baker's prior films (STARLET, PRINCE OF BROADWAY) brought rich texture and intimate detail to worlds seldom seen on film. Geoffrey Wright's 'Cherry Falls' Blu-ray Planned for the New Year[teaser]The black comedy starring Brittany Murphy, Jay Mohr, Michael Biehn, and Jesse Bradford is headed for Blu-ray in 2016. [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Scream Factory says 'Cherry Falls' will arrive on Blu-ray sometime next year. Cherry Falls will leave you wondering if you should giggle or scream for help. A fiendish take on the teen thriller genre, where there's a method to a killer's madness, and only one naughty way to insure you're not the next victim. Dark secrets, darker motivations, and the blackest humor ever run wild in this send-up of horror films, where it's not always the innocent who survive. From Scream Factory's Facebook: "As excited as we are to be able to bring this to you (finally) we do need to address upfront the question we know some of you will have: Will it be uncut?" "We were fully aware that the film suffered trims from the MPAA prior to its release so when we acquired the film we hoped that we could find the additional footage and include it—either as deleted scenes or reinstated into the film. Unfortunately, our licensor (Universal) only has the theatrical R-rated version in their vault (the same cut that was released on the long out-of-print DVD) and they do not have cut footage in question. "Plan B: We contacted the film’s Director Geoffrey Wright to see if maybe he might have the excised material but were told that he was never given a chance to assemble a longer cut originally. He did not have the footage either." "That being said, we still hope that fans will support the release in High-def. Extras are planned and will be announced at a later date. New key art is also in the works too." You can find the latest specs for 'Cherry Falls' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it is indexed under PENDING.Posted Fri Oct 16, 2015 at 08:00 AM PDT by: -
