The Calm Before The Storm, It's HDD's 4K UHD & Blu-ray Shopping Guide, Mar 3, 2024For people like me, I look forward to 4K releases, and I tell ya, this week is a great week to prepare ourselves for what next week is going to bring! It's sort of a calm before the storm. Keep both hands on the wheel as we get through this week and into next. Welcome to Volume 4 Episode 40 of our weekly release guide. A look at the highlights of what's coming to disc the week of March 3rd - March 9th, as well as a look at announcements from last week. 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Releases- Walmart Monday has Brawl in Cell Block 99, Children of the Corn (2020), Mayhem and Prisoners of the Ghostland available as 4K Walmart Exclusive SteelBooks. Just TWO releases this week in this category on Tuesday. First, from Universal and another upgrade to a recently released blu-ray, action/thriller The 355. And second, from Paramount and a straight-up double-dip of sorts, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, but as a standard edition (rather than from the 'Paramount Presents' line.) Relatively sure these are the exact same discs as the previous release, check out the review to see if it's right for you. Next week could be walletmageddon, walletpocalypse, bank breaker, credit card maxxer, need a new line of credit, insert witty financial pun here, all of the above! Those James Cameron titles we have been eagerly awaiting for for YEARS, the next Aquaman, The Color Purple remake, Wish, a bunch of Shout Factory titles, and more! Blu-ray releases- Blu-ray counterparts of the above 4K releases? Look to the past, we already have them. The volume of blu-rays this week is also lower than normal. Not gloom and doom, there are plenty of preorders still on the books, this week is just slow like the 4K category. Walmart Monday brings exclusive SteelBooks, this week look for Kickboxer, Little Monsters, Shivers and V/H/S/Triple Feature. Anime highlight this week includes just RWBY: Ice Queendom - The Complete Season. Shout Factory brings back a memorable to me title, Over the Edge. What I remember most is how much havoc these kids did. I know we are all itching for this in 4K, and anything (it seems) related to James Wan and/or Blumhouse seems to be hit or miss (mostly miss). SAW 10-Film Collection 20th Anniversary Edition is available Tuesday. A fancy looking set with all 10 films in it. Honorable mention: This one from Oscilloscope is getting a fair amount of attention with some of the Hollywood circles. Classified as a fantasy horror, Moon Garden is on track for a Tuesday release. Amazon US has the February batch of Imprint titles available Friday, they are Children of Heaven, The Dresser, Face to Face (Ansikte Mot Ansikte), I'm Not Scared (Io Non Ho Paura), A Man in Love (Un Homme Amoureux) and Mountains of the Moon. Notable announcements from last week: Glory is coming to 4K SteelBook from Sony Pictures on June 4th. March Comes In Like A 2160p HDR Lion - HDD's March 2024 4K UHD Shopping GuideA month we've hoped to see for ages has finally arrived. Not only are we seeing a stacked slate of new and exciting catalog releases, but James Cameron's long-missing-on-disc hits The Abyss and True Lies with Aliens all come to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray... it's going to get expensive. To say 2024 has been a wild and weird year is a bit of an understatement. Not only have we seen Best Buy completely exit the physical media marketplace (only a few stores still have their disc shelves up), but now we've seen a major shakeup at Disney. With the reports that Sony will take over manufacturing and distribution of the Mouse House titles, we're also bracing for more tumultuous impacts to our favorite hobby. While there have been some shaky moments, there's hope on the horizon and March is a great reason for hope. We're seeing a trio of James Cameron favorites finally come to 4K (let alone Blu-ray for two of them). We're seeing Walmart and Amazon start to take over the SteelBook and collectors' packaging duties abandoned by Best Buy. And we're starting to see more and more obscure and exciting titles come out thanks to the independents like Vinegar Syndrome, Severin, and Kino Lorber. With a packed month ahead of us, let's dive in. March 2024 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Shopping Guide March 5th, 4K UHD Releases The first week of the month is actually a little light (thankfully). With March 12th being a financially crippling frame, it's nice that we get a little respite with only some small releases and a couple of RLJE SteelBooks rereleases from Walmart to keep an eye on. March 12th, 4K UHD Releases If you have a rare blood type - sell a pint. If you have lots of couches - look under every cushion for loose change. That friend that borrowed $20 from you ten years ago but never paid you back - they need to cough up the cheddar plus 10% on top of the vig. You're going to need every shiny copper penny you can get a hold of for this insane slate of old favorites and new releases. March 19th, 4K UHD Releases Hoping for a break after a blistering week of purchases? Well, that's not happening this week. The third week of March might not be as expansive but it has some big heavy hitters. Scream Factory pulls out the stops for some Horror favorites with Arrow and KLSC doing their part to keep your wallets stretched thin. March 26th, 4K UHD Releases Not slowing down for the final push of the month, KLSC, Criterion, Paramount, and Indicator have some big titles to swing for. What are the chances we'd be seeing some Tinto Brass classics coming to 4K? From cult classics to deep cut fan favorites to some solid studio flicks, there's a lot to keep an eye on this week. And that is everything for the month of March.
