'Helldriver' Blu-ray Dated[teaser]A Japanese blood-soaked, zombie splatter-fest will explode on Blu-ray this November! [/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Well Go USA is prepping 'Helldriver' for a Blu-ray release on November 22. From director Yoshihiro Nishimura ('Tokyo Gore Police,' 'Vampire Girl Vs. Frankenstein Girl') comes the epic, apocalyptic Zombie-fighting road movie from the prolific Japanese production company Sushi Typhoon. 'Helldriver' takes place in a Japan where half the population has become not-so-sexy flesh eaters and the economy has gently withered away ... until Kika (Yumiko Hara) arrives. A stunning high school girl armed with an artificial heart-powered chainsaw sword, she leads a motley crew of desperados on a secret mission into the zombie-infected wilds to exterminate zombie queen Rikka (Eihi Shiina, 'Tokyo Gore Police') and put an end to the plague of the living dead. Specs have yet to be revealed, but the release will be a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack and supplements will include three exclusive short films set within the 'Helldriver' universe: 'Helldriver Dokata' (directed by Helldriver First Assistant Director Jun Shiozaki), 'Catch Me If You Can!' (directed by Lighting Director Hiroshi Ota), and 'Bailout!' (directed by poster designer Yoshiki Takahashi). Additional added value includes an in-depth interview with the Japanese splatter king himself, Yoshihiro Nishimura and two behind-the-scenes featurettes: “The Making of Helldriver,” directed by Helldriver actor Demo Tanaka that not only details the making of the film, but also the literally hellish conditions under which the film was shot (two-week shooting schedule, bad weather) and "Sushi Typhoon: Tokyo Invasion!," featuring interviews with many of the Sushi Typhoon team while launching the Sushi Typhoon festival, where four films were screened for a month in the Ginza area of Tokyo. Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is $29.98. You can find the latest specs for 'Helldriver' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under November 22.Posted Tue Sep 27, 2011 at 11:45 AM PDT by: -
Warner May Put a Three Month Delay on Redbox and Netflix Releases[teaser]Rumor says that the new scheduling will start on November 1st. [/teaser] Once Redbox and Netflix really took off, movie studios started imposing new rules, experimenting with pricing and different release windows until it seemed like everyone agreed on a 28 day delay. That is, instead of being able to rent out new releases on the day they come out, Netflix and Redbox have to wait four weeks. If rumor is to believed, Warner isn't happy with the 28 day arrangement and is planning to triple it starting in November. Instead of just a 28 day delay, they're looking at 90 days. This means that if you want to watch a movie right when it comes out, you'll have to buy it, or go to one of the few video rental stores still in business. The big question on this one - how will this move affect Warner? Will they sell more Blu-rays and DVDs at retail or are they simply costing themselves money because Redbox and Netflix will likely not be buying as many copies of the movie. Time will tell. Netflix Takes DreamWorks Streaming Movies from HBO[teaser]Netflix customers will be able to stream movies from the DreamWorks library, but HBO subscribers lose out. [/teaser] We've seen a bit of a Netflix/HBO rivalry in the last few years. Netflix wants HBO's shows for streaming and HBO won't allow it. Both companies bid on the new series 'House of Cards' starring Kevin Spacey and Netflix won out. Now Netflix is taking DreamWorks content right out of the hands of HBO. A new deal between Netflix and DreamWorks gives the streaming service access to not only catalog titles but new theatrical releases starting in 2013. It's an incredibly big deal for both companies - Netflix, of course, for scoring a significant new source of timely content and DreamWorks for taking a bit of a risk eschewing traditional pay TV. Details haven't been released about the length of this deal, but the price is reported at $30 million a year. That's another big investment for Netflix and yet another reason not to discount the company any time soon. Source: Home Media MagazinePosted Tue Sep 27, 2011 at 11:00 AM PDT by: -

Dish Network Launches the Blockbuster Movie Pass Streaming Service[teaser]It's a sweet deal too, especially if you're a Dish subscriber already. [/teaser] At first glance, Blockbuster Movie Pass sounds like everything we've ever wanted from a subscription based service. It offers DVDs, Blu-rays and even games by mail with no upcharge, gives unlimited streaming access and access to more shows and movies than Netflix. It's cheap too. If you subscribe to Dish Network's America's Best 200 programming package, you'll get the Blockbuster Movie Pass absolutely free. Dish Network subscribers will pay just $10 a month and the rest of us - well, the rest of us won't have access at all. That's right - in order to get into the perfect package for cable cutters you'll have to subscribe to Dish Network. It sounds like a great service for subscribers, but it's definitely not the big Netflix competitor we expected. No word yet on when the service might be opened up to non- Dish Network subscribers.
