Top Sales and Rentals: Week Ending April 1st, 2012[teaser]Blu-ray has a solid piece of the market share in all of the top 10 movies this week. [/teaser] Now there's a nice statistic to see. Out of the top ten movies released on Blu-ray and DVD this week, only 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' and 'Happy Feet Two' come in with less than a 25% Blu-ray share. They're not far behind though, at 23% and 24% respectively. The highest shares came from 'The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo,' with a 44% split, 'The Adventures of Tintin' with 38% and 'The Muppets,' which pulled in 35%. For the most part, the best selling Blu-rays lined up with the best selling discs overall, with a few titles gaining or losing a place. Rentals tell an interesting story, as 'Tower Heist,' which suffers from the 28-day rental delay, took the number two spot behind 'Dragon Tattoo.' 'Pink Floyd: The Story of Wish You Were Here' Dated for Blu-ray[teaser]The 2011 TV documentary is coming to Blu-ray at the end of June.[/teaser] In an early announcement to retailers, Eagle Rock Entertainment is prepping 'Pink Floyd: The Story of Wish You Were Here' for a high-definition release on June 26. Wish You Were Here, released in September 1975, was the follow up album to the globally successful The Dark Side Of The Moon and is cited by many fans, as well as band members Richard Wright and David Gilmour, as their favorite Pink Floyd album. On release it went straight to Number One in both the UK and the US and topped the charts in many other countries around the world. This program tells the story of the making of this landmark release through new interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason and archive interviews with the late Richard Wright. Also featured are sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, guest vocalist Roy Harper, front cover “burning man” Ronnie Rondell and others involved in the creation of the album. In addition, original recording engineer Brian Humphries revisits the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios to illustrate aspects of the songs’ construction. The band members discuss the album’s themes of absence, the greed of the music business, and former band member Syd Barrett, who is famously celebrated in “Shine On You Crazy Diamond”, which both opens and closes the album. The program also covers the unexpected visit Barrett paid to Abbey Road during the recording, the difficulties of the early recording sessions and how the decision to split “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” into two sections was the catalyst for the album’s successful completion. The DVD and Blu-ray releases contain additional bonus material not featured in the TV broadcast version, including further interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason plus Roger Waters and David Gilmour performing excerpts from the Wish You Were Here album. 'The Story Of Wish You Were Here' is a fascinating document and fitting tribute to Pink Floyd’s outstanding achievement in the creation of this masterpiece. Suggested list price for the Blu-ray is still undetermined at this time. Survey Shows Consumer Desire for Projectors is on the Rise[teaser]Since 2009, there has been a significant increase in consumer interest in projectors. [/teaser] The folks at Pacific Media Associates (PMA) completed a new survey about projectors and found that interest has shot way up in the last few years. In 2009, just 11% of respondents said that they'd be buying a projector. In the most recent survey, the number rose to 18% - a nice step up. Most of the people that said they would be buying projectors also said that they had no plans to put that projector in a dedicated home theater – simply their living room or media room. Large-scale remodeling projects and dedicated rooms are starting to lose some popularity. Source: Electronic HousePosted Wed Apr 4, 2012 at 11:00 AM PDT by:
