'Lawrence of Arabia: 50th Anniversary Edition' Blu-ray Announced and Pre-orders Live![teaser]David Lean's Academy Award-winning epic starring Peter O'Toole is getting the Blu-ray red carpet treatment in November! [/teaser] In an early press announcement, Sony has revealed 'Lawrence of Arabia: 50th Anniversary Edition' will be released on the high-definition format on November 13. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won seven: Best Original Score (Maurice Jarre), Best Film Editing (Anne V. Coates), Best Sound (John Cox), Best Cinematography (Frederick A. Young), Best Art Direction (John Box, John Stoll, and Dario Simoni), Best Director (David Lean) and Best Picture. "We wanted to return this film to as pristine a condition as possible to honor its anniversary release," says Grover Crisp, EVP of Asset Management, Film Restoration and Digital Mastering for SPE. The original camera negative was scanned at 8K and the film went through a painstaking process of repairing problems inherent to the 50-year old film elements. Using the latest digital imaging technology, the color grading and re-mastering was completed in 4K at Colorworks, Sony Pictures Entertainments' digital intermediate facility. "The original negative was seriously damaged in a number of ways, some problems dating from the original release and some accumulated over the years." says Crisp. "But, until now, we did not have the tools available to address these issues. We think fans of the film will be as amazed as we are at the detail and resolution in the imagery captured by cinematographer Freddie Young to compliment David Lean's immaculate direction." Specs and supplements have yet to be revealed, but the 3-disc set will also include a CD sampler and a booklet containing production notes and photographs. Suggested list price for the Blu-ray set is $95.99. Photographer Holly (Jennifer Lopez, 'Out of Sight') is prepared to travel the globe to adopt a child, but her husband Alex (Rodrigo Santoro, 'Redbelt') isn't so sure and tries to quiet his panic by attending a 'dudes' support group, where new fathers (including Rob Huebel, 'I Love You, Man,' Thomas Lennon, 'A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas,' and Chris Rock, 'Dogma') get to tell it like it really is. The 75-Inch Samsung ES9000 is Coming to America[teaser]What initially sounded like a Korean exclusive is heading to the States in August for $9,999. [/teaser] When we first saw the news of a 75" LED backlit 3D Smart TV a few weeks ago we were impressed, but a bit saddened based on indications that we wouldn't be seeing it in the US. Samsung surprised us all today though, when they announced that the ES9000 will be hitting our shores next month. Even nicer is that the price in the US is significantly lower than in Korea. Instead of having to shell out the equivalent of $17,000, we'll only be charged $9,999 for the privilege. It's still not cheap by any means, but that change brings it down to a far more reasonable price point. Source: eCousticsPosted Thu Jul 19, 2012 at 09:00 AM PDT by: -

DirecTV/Viacom War Wages On[teaser]DirecTV says they've agreed to Viacom's terms – Viacom says they're making things up. [/teaser] Things are getting heated between the folks at Viacom and DirecTV, and it's getting worse. When this whole mess started, the companies were in disagreement on licensing fees – now they can't agree on anything. DirecTV says they've lost 17 channels while Viacom says they've pulled 26. Even more glaring is that the companies don't even have the same story when it comes to negotiations. DirecTV says that they've agreed to Viacom's terms, but are holding out because "Viacom insists that we carry the EPIX channel at an additional cost of more than half a billion dollars." Viacom fires back in their latest blog entry. "DirecTV's most recent press release regarding EPIX is one more complete work of fiction from the company." That language is about as nasty as PR tends to get. Source: EngadgetPosted Thu Jul 19, 2012 at 07:00 AM PDT by: -
