Words and ghosts, they're all the same.
Game developers have long been eager to crack the code on virtual detective work, and from the action-packed 'Arkham Asylum' to the various indies throwing in their two cents on the subject, it's probably best we've never hit that sweet spot. Otherwise we wouldn't get games trying to do it differently, like 'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.'
Here's a solid 13 minutes directly from developer The Astronauts explaining exactly how the core detective work happens as you try to uncover the game's core mysteries. There's more than a little supernatural going on.
The story has often been described as Lovecraftian. With detective Paul Prospero's unique gifts, there's no doubt of the game's inevitable descent into madness or insanity or talking unicorns. It's definitely one of those three things.
'The Vanishing of Ethan Carter' is due out Sept. 25 for PC.
