Adding a new dimension to the genre.
A new gameplay video for 'Paragon,' the upcoming MOBA from 'Gears of War' studio Epic Games, showcases several character abilities used in context, as well as the 3-D gameplay that Epic is trying to add to the MOBA formula.
In "Rushing the Core," two teams demonstrate a handful of character abilities in a gameplay setting as one attacks with area-of-effect damage abilities and the other defends with walls that make getting around more difficult. The attacking team also utilizes a traversal ability to show off the game's use of verticality, a relatively new frontier for the MOBA genre. The two characters teleport up to a raised platform, gaining a more advantageous position and a bit of breathing room away from enemy bruisers.
This use of 3-D space is one of the things Epic has said it is bringing into the MOBA format, infusing a bit of an action game feel into the team strategy framework.
