And some indies are punching in the heavy-hitting AAA weight class.
Nominations have been released for the 2016 Game Developers Choice Awards, and 'Metal Gear Solid V' and 'The Witcher 3' are getting the most love.
Both blockbuster titles came away with four nominations each. 'Metal Gear Solid V' is up for Best Audio, Best Technology, Best Design, and Game of the Year. 'The Witcher 3' scored nominations for Best Technology, Best Narrative, Best Visual Art, and Game of the Year.
In all, five games are up for the ultimate GOTY title, with 'Fallout 4,' 'Bloodborne,' and 'Rocket League' filling out the ballot.
Other titles were fortunate enough to garner three different nominations. 'Fallout 4,' 'Bloodborne,' 'Star Wars Battlefront,' and 'Splatoon' are all high-profile titles from major industry players. Standing alongside them in the three-nomination clubhouse, however, are 2015 indie darlings 'Her Story' and 'Undertale.'
The Game Developers Choice Awards is an annual video game awards show where the nominees and winners are chosen by an organization of game creators. The awards ceremony is held during the Game Developers Conference and will be streamed on Twitch on March 16 starting at 9:30 Eastern (6:30 Pacific). The awards will be hosted by Robin Hunicke, a game designer and producer who has worked on, among other titles, games like 'The Sims 2' and 'Journey.'
