Weapon rebalancing, changes to ranking and stage layouts inbound.
Since 'Splatoon' launched, Nintendo's been making some tiny changes behind the scenes, but nothing that wasn't simply an attempt to tweak for glitches and such. The 2.2.0 update coming next week, however, is going to be a different animal Though that animal, if I had to guess, is probably still a squid.
Next week's update, above all things, will drastically change how the vast majority of the weapons handle. A few weapons get bumps in usability, like the Inkbrush which will use less ink if you use it while running, or the Nozzlenose weapons, which got a nice little increase in ink coverage, but for the most part, some serious nerfing is about to happen. The big one is the only players have been waiting for since launch: Rollers now only kill in one hit if you roll over someone with the exact middle of the business end.
There's also some game mode related tweaks happening. Rainmaker mode is getting a ton of tweaks, and a bunch of stages are being tweaks to prevent some of the glitches that have been abused fr a while now. But the weapon rebalancing is the biggie, and it's been a long time coming. You can read the full patch notes at the official site. To get the game ready for the update, players should be aware Nintendo will be taking the game offline for an hour starting at 5:50 Pacific on the 20th. After which, it'll be a whole new world. Get ready.
