This could be a hit for Polk.
It's E3, and Polk is ready with a new gaming headset, the Striker Pro. The Striker Pro is going to be available in PS4, Xbox One, and PC variants, and Polk is talking audiophile quality. At the very least, the Striker Pro has a proven form factor, which embraces DJ style can freedom which should ensure comfort on and off the ears.
The Striker Pro has an all-new microphone design (which has been a trouble spot for past Polk headsets). Very smartly, Polk is embracing an inline control set, which will be big on the PS4. The Striker Pro is promised with a full set of accessories for use on consoles and mobile devices.
From Michael Greco, Global Brand Director for Polk, "What makes the Polk Striker Pro gaming headset unique are the acoustics. As audio specialists who have been making premium audiophile-grade speakers for over 40 years, we understand what it takes to properly voice a headset to ensure it delivers precise, balanced, rich sound for all types of listening. Whether chatting with your friends or listening intently for the footsteps of your enemies, your ears deserve the best sounding headset. With the Striker Pro, gamers do not have to trade universal compatibility and features for superior audio quality."
In essence, Polk is showing not only a desire to have a top level gaming headset in a traditionally separate audio grade design, but also a willingness to embrace a design that makes sense for gamers, which is why the cable that links the headset to the controller is so important.
The included cables feature:
Mobile Connect Cable – a 3.5mm microphone cable with in-line controls lets users play, pause and make phone calls without having to touch their device
Dual-Jack Console Controller Connect Cable – unlike the standard 3.5mm cable, this 1.3 meter (4 ft.) custom console cable is designed for high-fidelity audio to enhance microphone performance and remove crosstalk. Additionally, both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions allow for easy access to master volume and microphone mute without having to use the onscreen menus. The PlayStation 4 in-line also includes an attenuator to adjust your microphone’s gain to ensure it does not distort during online gaming sessions
Dual-Jack, Detachable, Extra-long Pro PC Connect Cable – Polk’s very own 3-meter (9.8 ft.) long Pro PC connect cable lowers the noise floor to eliminate crosstalk and boost microphone clarity for exceptional audio performance
The Striker Pro is coming in September. Pricing options include the victory red Striker Pro P1 for PlayStation 4 (MSRP: $129) and the dark emerald Striker Pro Zx (MSRP: $149) for Xbox One.
