Welcome back.
In just a few more days, 'Gears of War: Ultimate Edition' will hit the Xbox One like a sledgehammer, welcoming a whole new generation to a gritty, Dom-filled classic. But if for some reason, players weren't convinced that 'Gears' is back in force, there is another big indication.
ESL, in partnership with The Coalition (think 'Gears 4'), is putting together two seasons of competitive 'Gears of War.' It all starts in September, with a $500 prize pool preseason. Once the preseason shakes out some of the league's rough edges, the Gears of War Pro League will carry forward 16 teams, and eight of those teams will compete in the first official season. The championship is a $50,000 prize pool. Not exactly 'DotA 2' money, but this is the beginning.
Competition will include Execution, King of the Hill, and Blitz game modes (more format info here), and in partnership with Xbox, it seems likely that Xbox One will be platform for the league's season play.
This new league needs competitors, and aspiring eSports players can find out how to register and qualify here.
