A family affair.
The male and female leads of 'Mass Effect Andromeda' will be two different characters, a brother and sister pair, according to an interview with the game's creative lead.
Talking with PlayStation Access, 'Mass Effect Andromeda' creative lead Mac Walters revealed that the player character Ryder will actually be a brother and sister duo, with the player deciding which they want to play as. Unlike in previous games in the franchise, where there is only one player character with player-decided gender, in 'Mass Effect Andromeda' both the male and female leads will exist in the world simultaneously. If the player opts to explore the galaxy as the female Ryder, the male Ryder will still be in the universe alongside her.
As a small bonus, Walters also revealed that the armored figure from the game's E3 2015 reveal trailer is the siblings' father.
The brief interview, set over the footage from the game's 4K announcement, also touched on the exploration aspect of 'Andromeda.' Whereas in the original 'Mass Effect' trilogy, the player was more or less confined to exploring a few hub worlds and linear levels, 'Andromeda' will give the players more exploration leeway with tools like the scanner.
