Nintendo's first mobile app is a success.
Nintendo's first attempt at a smartphone app is now out in the world, which is still a sentence nobody would've ever thought they'd hear maybe five years ago, and even fewer people thought would actually work, considering Nintendo stock took a nose dive the second it was announced. In case anyone was wishy-washy about Nintendo's first attempt at a smartphone app, well, uh....I guess this answers your questions:
Three million people have given Nintendo's app a try, and the app has only been out 24 hours at this point. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, it racked up one million downloads in the first three days it was out in Japan. That's pretty incredible. The question now becomes, "Now what?"
Well, for Miitomo itself, remains to be seen. Having tried it, it's basically the strangest hybrid between Facebook, OKCupid's quizzes, and 'Animal Crossing'. Is that enough to maintain a social network through potentially years? Who knows. If its not, though, at least Nintendo has backup plans, with at least four more apps coming between now and the end of 2017, including one starring one of Nintendo's A-list characters. Till then, hope you enjoy winning cat ears every couple of hours.
