No telling how long this price will last.
Sony's PlayStation TV is still a curious device. It can do some things that the PS4 can't, such as play the new 'Suikoden II' PS classic release or the much loved 'Persona 4 Golden.' Today, the basic PlayStation TV is available at new low price of $70 (order here). The bundle version, which includes a DS3, 8GB memory card, and 'The Lego Movie Videogame' voucher, is priced at $99 (order here).
Here's a list of Vita titles that Sony expects to be popular on PlayStation TV:
Rayman Origins
Persona 4 Golden
God of War Collection
Killzone: Mercenary
FINAL FANTASY X / X-2 HD Remaster
Dragon’s Crown
Spelunky
FINAL FANTASY TACTICS: WAR OF THE LIONS
Metal Gear Solid
Patapon
Twisted Metal
Borderlands 2
Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom
Even better, Sony has a concise list of PlayStation TV capabilities:
PS TV plays select content from PlayStation systems past and present, including:
PlayStation Vita – PS TV plays select titles from PS Vita, which can either be downloaded to the device or inserted directly into the system using a PS Vita card.
PlayStation Classics – Download classic games from PS One and PlayStation Portable [digital libraries], like Wipeout and Metal Gear Solid.
PlayStation 3 – Our game streaming service PS Now is coming to PS TV, which will let you play many PS3 games on the device over the Internet.
PlayStation 4 – If you’re a PS4 owner, use Remote Play to stream a remote play enabled PS4 game from your console to a PS TV over a wired internet connection. If the living room is tied up, just use Remote Play to send your PS4 game up to the bedroom and keep playing on PS TV.
For those that already have PlayStation Plus, say for use on the PS3 and PS4, a PlayStation TV is a great way to play all of those free Vita titles.
The PlayStation TV is being offered in two packages:
The barebones PlayStation TV checks in at $99.99 $70 and is good for those that already have a spare DualShock 3 or DualShock 4 around, as well as either a spare or otherwise acquired Vita memory card. (PlayStation TV has a 1GB of built in space.)
The other package is the PlayStation TV DualShock 3 Bundle, which adds a DualShock 3, a 8GB PlayStation Vita memory card, and a copy of the Vita version of 'The Lego Movie Videogame.' This bundle would be the one to get for those new to the PlayStation ecosystem, though for the extra $30, others might consider opting for the controller, memory card and game bundle.
Those unfamiliar with device should know that in addition to really needing a controller, a (expensive) Vita memory card, normal set top app subscriptions, probably PlayStation Plus (for the games), and maybe even PlayStation Now (once it's somewhat finalized), the tiny device tops out at 1080i and 2CH LPCM. Even with those needs and limitations, the device offers unique capabilities unavailable in either consoles or other set-top boxes. (Sadly, it does not currently support Netflix.)
